Soopoo. Surely you know that not one cent is collected from foreign countries through tariffs? They are paid directly by the US business that does the importing. They then pass on the cost down the line. US wholesalers and retailers and eventually consumers pay those tariffs.... If they can afford to. If not, the sales of the product drop. They are inflationary. A call for tarifs is a call for inflation. The foreign supplier pays not one cent more to the treasury to sell you his product. |

Trump just talking about tariffs will get production to move. Already happening. This kind of thing happens when a new leader comes in at all levels. If they show they are serious people start to change their behavior. I've seen it in politics and the business world. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

They are just taxes. Do you say the same when corporate taxes are raised? ‘They will just raise prices to make up for the tax increase so it’s inflationary’. More Democrat business regulations? ‘The corporations will just increase prices to consumers to make up for their added costs, so it’s inflationary’. Consumers will ALWAYS pay for any increased cost on the producer. You know what a tariff does that Red tape and raising USA based corporate taxes don’t? Favor USA based manufacturing! Since other countries can pay $3 an hour and we have to pay $13 to the bottom level workers, tariffs keep jobs here. And what difference does it make how the tariff is collected? It is a TAX on the foreign manufacturer. I think some tariffs can be an overall good thing. We have to collect $$ to feed the Federal Government. Tariffs can be a part of that solution. As I’ve said, it’s above my pay grade to figure out what industries/how much/etc…. |

Dr Soopoo is now a economist defending tarriffs when every economist on the planet is against tarriffs You can't make this up He has so much hate for Dem policies , he just blindly supports any republican policy that hurts the economy. It's a tax that consumers pay. Let's not assemble smartphones in China to let consumers pay 100 dollars a phone. Let's assemble them in the US and charge consumers 1k a phone In Soopoos world, that's a good thing lol Soopoo supports policies that increase inflation simply because it's a Republican policy and he hates Dems. He refuses to believe any republican policy is bad for business simply because it's a republican policy Sometimes we live no particular way but our own - Grateful Dead "Eyes of the World" |

The impending collapse of China is what is getting production improvements. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |

| SOOPOO Member since: Feb 19, 2014 Threads: 25 Posts: 5350 | Dr.SOOPOO, during the BIDEN administration, bought an expensive ring on a trip to Greece. Upon coming home, the BIDEN administration charged me a TARIFF to get it back home. Oh wait, they called it a ‘duty’ so it’s ok. To be clear, I am not saying I am in favor of Trump’s proposed usurious tariffs, but how about this….. ‘I am going to levy a 2% tariff on all goods coming from abroad, with ALL of that money being used directly for border security measures’. |

| Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 148 Posts: 25972 | Trump for sure knew he was going to win. It's only been 6 days since the election and he already has a bunch of people appointed in various positions. He's not making the same mistakes he made last time. It's also not going to take years for the Senate to approve whoever he picks they're going to do it immediately. He knew by looking at his internal polls he was going to win just like the Harris people knew they were going to lose. This is why they tripled down on the ugly Hitler rhetoric in the last few weeks before the election, it was pure desperation. Nobody on either side likes to hear that crap and a huge number of people don't even know who Adolf Hitler was. Notice it had zero effect on the electorate, he still won every Battleground state and the general election. Nobody cared about the Hitler Nazi crap. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

...and inflation is sky high which, most likely, was the number 1 reason there will be a new administration come Jan 20. Maybe Biden should've repealed the Republican tariffs. Maybe the tariffs are the reason my new oil boiler costs so much... |
