I think Trump has potentially shot himself in the foot.

Before tariffs, the guy who couldn't compete with China at least knew it was China was causing him problems.

Now, new businesses are being harmed by the counter-tariffs imposed by China, because of Trump's actions. Who caused that? Trump.

Ah, we'll see. Maybe Trump will do what he always does. Blame someone else and too many fall for it.

Although I don't agree with Trump on anything, I think what he is doing is trying to give a "deathblow" to China as we know it. China is in a such a horrible financial situation right now with a labor market that is disappearing. Basically I think he is trying to end China as a superpower before they get to the point of being a major military concern to the U.S.

Have you ever been to Canada? Try and buy an item. On top of the price they have a Federal ‘Value Added Tax’. If that isn’t enough, the Provinces add their own ‘Value Added Tax’. Please tell me how this is different from a tariff? I think these can add up to 20% of the total cost of the item. You Dems/Libs just don’t get it that governments need funds to pay for the services they provide. Tariffs are one way to collect that money. Would you be happy if Trump said no tariffs, but I’m instituting a VAT like Canada has? While we are still 30 + TRILLION $ in debt I’m for anything that increases tax collections and decreases federal expenditures.

Canada is raising its tarrifs as much as Trump in addition to what you’re claiming. How do we make out? One of their leaders said they have almost no debt and they can outlast us. China said they go as long as they have to. China will oppress its own people if it needs to accomplish something.

Canada would seize up if they try to match Trump. As SOOPOO pointed out, they pay 20% or more in what is effectively a sales tax already. (Non-Canadians could get a partial rebate at Duty Free for bigger ticket items.) And this is on top of Canadian prices that are already higher than USA prices for the same items. Buffalo car dealers could be making a killing if they were allowed to sell to Canadians.
