I’ll tell you this story again. I was co-chief resident in Anesthesia Residency with a Black doctor. I’d say that if we did an objective analysis of our performance back then he would have been considered ‘slightly better’ than me. But he was aware that in the next job hunt, as an African American, he’d have a big edge over an equally qualified White guy. He knew my family history. Father on the wrong side of the law. Single mother with some psychiatric issues doing her best to raise me and my sister. His mother was a doctor. His father a police chief of a small town. Both highly successful. We laughed that he would get chosen ahead of me because of my presumed ‘advantages’. If I’m trying to hire someone, I want the best candidate. You do not. You want to fix the wrongs from decades/centuries ago. Which you fail to do by CONTINUING to use race as a factor in hiring. |

Sucks Some Presidents have a falling market due to circumstances beyond their control Then there is Trump purposely taking a sledgehammer to the world economy with tarriffs and war For some weird reason, some still believe Trump is better then Dems for the economy |

konechno, comrade! I did visit Russia once. Saw Moscow and St. Petersburg. Went to Novodevichy Cemetery, where our tour guide got into an argument with another Russian about Stalin's reputation (she was not a fan). Went about a week after Yeltsin sacked his entire government, and my father (there on business) told us he'd call to let us know whether to come or not. He told us to come, but to try and sneak American dollars in somehow without paying the import duty. Shoved a bunch of hundreds in shoes and walked them in. He was happy. |
