Good answer. Me too. Answering Geno…. I am probably closer to you than you think on ‘clean air’. I am just stating that I don’t think Californians are getting their money’s worth. Anyway, the original point of this discussion was about ‘what a disaster’ it is that gas went from $3.20 to $3.60 in Florida. When it was already $4.80 in California. To me, by FAR the biggest air quality rule has been banning indoor smoking most everywhere. Ending hijack….. market crash seems to be taking a day off. Big up day (so far!) |

Well, the 2 buck difference isn't entirely due to clean air gas formulations. Did you read the article I posted? Part of the increased cost is due to CA's gas tax. Part of it is due to refining costs, since CA is cut off from the rest of the country's gas/petroleum infrastructure due to the Rockies. CA is getting their money's worth by getting cleaner air than if the gas regulations weren't in place. Maybe the rest of country should adopt CA's gas regulations. Clean air for everybody! |

Hard to believe we once smoked on air liners, trains, buses and while dining in restaurants. But as for the most significant rule change I'd vote for the policy change which led to sending smoke stack industry off shore in order to clean up our American air as this morphed the USA from the Manufacturer of the World to being basically a financial and service economy. It was our industrial might which led to world supremacy and the lack thereof leading to our decline both in world influence and ability to employ our citizens in good paying jobs. Yet another example of unintended consequences flowing from doing "good deeds." |

It used to be, but the outward migration seems to tell a different story, and now California faces one of the lowest in-migration rates in the country, resulting in a shrinking or stagnant population. But the land itself is majestic in many places: as always it's people who fuck it up. |
