The republicans should be ashamed of themselves for including this provision:

Bipartisan funding bill would allow senators to sue over government searches of their phone records

I agree with Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett

It's the retroactive application of the provision I strongly find offensive.

Yowza. Flea and me agreeing on REPULSIVE Republican add on to the ‘open the government’ bill. Even a bunch of Republicans are already trying to team up with the Democrats to rescind that part.

It’s a reason I wish most bills were done SEPARATELY. This add on stuff never seems to be in the public’s best interests.

If the Republicans objected so much, they would have stripped it from the bill before passage.

Nope. Even the Democrat Senators that made it to 60 voted for it. They realized that the positives of ending the Schumer shutdown outweighed the negatives from the few Republican Senators pathetic add on. And the Republican House members that are against that add on basically said the same thing. That voting it down would have delayed the opening another week, as the bill would have been sent back to the Senate. Re-written. Re-debated. Then voted on again with no guarantee that one of the asshole Republican Senators now votes against it. Then toTrumps desk. That’s another week that the Shumer shutdown causes pain and suffering to all Americans.

As I said in my previous post, allowing these add ons that have NOTHING to do with the original bill proposed tends to NOT be in the public’s overall best interests. Used to be called ‘pork’.

Thank you. The more I think about it, the more sleazy it feels. The number of times I heard the phrase ‘clean spending bill’ as a Republican talking point……. When they eventually put forward that extremely dirty bill…..

I tell you I am shocked, completely shocked. Less than a week since the shutdown ended, air traffic is returning to normal and the TSA lines are moving more efficiently.

It seems that the air controllers and TSA employees have been miraculously cured of the Schumer shutdown sickness that kept many of them from working. Maybe G-no has some insight on what medications may have been prescribed to cure the Schumer shutdown sickness.

As I have posted previously before, I hope that the Department of Transportation and the Department of Homeland Security have kept close track the attendance records of the air controllers and TSA employees during the shutdown.

I also hope that the malingering employees are appropriately disciplined up to and including firing.

...the stock market has imploded and is in near free fall.

Overdue "market correction" or is it something more disturbing?

"Alright, everybody back into the clown car!"

That I can agree with. Until we are wrong again.

Probably Trump’s fault. We are 38 trillion in debt and he’s going to be writing how many hundreds of billions in $2,000 checks? Who knew we elected the most progressive President ever?

If SCOTUS orders the tariffs are illegal and orders their return to the merchants who paid them, where's Donny going to get the money for these checks?

You are joking, right? We are $30+ trillion in debt RIGHT NOW. Any money available to send those checks is just adding to the debt. Regardless of whether he collected money from tariffs or not. Had he done the prudent thing, and allocated the tariff collections to paying down the debt, we could applaud him.

It’s funny. This stupid $2,000 check to non billionaires is as liberal/progressive an idea as Sanders/AOC/Mamdani could have!
