Oh please.

You argue that the oaf should get a bye for this as repaying victims will add to the national debt.

What if his acts are ruled illegal / beyond that which is permitted?

I can just see that "defense" used by others in the MAGA universe: "Gee, it will add to the national debt so I guess we cannot repay all the money we stole from those widows and orphans" and "You can't throw me in prison, that will cost money to house, feed and guard me and it will add to the national debt."

No, all criminals need to face consequences and all victims should be fully compensated; hell, Trump says he's a billionaire, make him pay them back using his own money.

You are joking, right? We are $30+ trillion in debt RIGHT NOW. Any money available to send those checks is just adding to the debt. Regardless of whether he collected money from tariffs or not. Had he done the prudent thing, and allocated the tariff collections to paying down the debt, we could applaud him.

It’s funny. This stupid $2,000 check to non billionaires is as liberal/progressive an idea as Sanders/AOC/Mamdani could have!

The prudent thing was to not impose the tariffs at all.

I am just befuddled at what you are getting at here. Donny wants to use the tariff money to pay these mythical $2,000 checks. But (a) there isn't nearly enough tariff money to do that and (b)if SCOTUS rules they money returned to the payors, there goes the $2,000 checks. What's the comprehension problem here?

If Donny wants to be progressive, he'd repeal the One Big Beautiful Bill and restore cuts to SNAP, ACA subsidies, CPB, USAID and other programs.

No comprehension problem at all. If the tariffs are refunded it’s just a huge windfall to all these foreign companies (and some American ones of course) that had to pay them. And if the ruling comes after the $2k checks were sent just add another couple hundred billion to the deficit.

And of course Trump doesn’t want to appear liberal/progressive. He just wants to take credit for something that he thinks will be very popular. You watch. If he is successful at doling out the $2k checks, for the next election, the Democrat running against Vance will be promising $3k checks.

And there may be enough money to send those checks. They may be cutting them off for workers over $100k. That eliminates a swath of the middle class, not just the rich. Then plan is so stupid SOOPOO and wifey probably each would qualify.

Would the tariff refunds be a windfall to the payors, or reimbursement for illegally collected monies? And if the ruling comes down after the $2k checks are mailed and SCOTUS (or USSC, take your pick) orders repayment, then Donny will have to answer for it.

If he wants to take credit for something popular, let him restore cuts to SNAP, ACA, CPB, USAID, etc. If he does dole out $2k checks, the Dem running against Vance will say "Big deal. You still can't afford groceries, can't afford health insurance, and are stuck with a 10 year car loan and a 50 year mortgage that will cost you more in interest than the value of the home."

All may be correct, except Donny doesn’t have to answer for it. He is a lame duck President. He will not care if the Republicans falter after he is no longer President. He single-handedly sabotaged the Republicans giving the Democrats the Senate with his election stealing nonsense. He might want the Democrats to win when he is not running, as it will allow him to claim HE is the reason the Republicans had been winning…..

I’ve been thinking about the 50 year mortgage again. I’m more in favor of it, as long as there are no pre payment penalties. On a $100k mortgage/6%, 50 year payment around $500 a month. 30 year payment around $600 a month. So if your financial situation improves, just pay $600 a month! (I know you will lose a little due to slightly higher rate for 50 year mortgage, but the concept is valid)

That's a big "if" What other professions, other than doctors transitioning from residency to practice, allow for such big jump in pay?
