Other than speculation that he is going to reflect big on the Democrats, I'm not interested in him or NYC.. He seems too smart to me to double down on a policy that doesn't work for NYC. Hard to know if he will live up to full radical left, or is actually going to modulate depending on what works. He just doesn't seem or talk like a purist socialist |

Doesn't matter what he says or does. All that matters here, is that he is the Democrat nominee. Any one of the worst characters in human history would be our next mayor if they were the Democrat nominee. He's also of non-European ethnicity. Which is a big plus in a city where at least 70% of the population is non-white, and nearly 40% of the residents are foreign born. No less than 925,000 Muslims live in NYC. Largest Muslim population in the US. 350,000 of them are registered voters. He will get 100% of their vote, 90% of the black vote, and 70% of the remaining ethnic vote. |

I hope so since it will another reminder of how socialist ideas in this realm become a joke, it will be ration coupons galore with attendant empty shelves, or if not a complete scandal as a monumental money loser Free bus rides? Something will happen here, soon deemed to be unsatisfactory especially for those who used to use buses no cost child care ... not a chance, maybe a few low income people will be selected for subsidizing, for show. Other education changes will be token or not enacted at all. quotes from https://www.zohranfornyc.com/platform "the Mamdani administration will provide new parents and guardians with a collection of essential goods and resources, free of charge, including items like diapers, baby wipes, nursing pads, post-partum pads, swaddles, and books." Something token is always possible, but in any kind of scale this ain't happening " The Mamdani administration will protect LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers by expanding and protecting gender-affirming care citywide, making NYC an LGBTQIA+ sanctuary city, and creating the Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs." This will be completely enacted in full, except the alphabet soup is too restricted and under criticism will expand to the full alpahabet plus some others, like Cyrillic Healthcare ideas will not happen, except more abortion facilities I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

I'm not going to get into most of those points at the moment, but I just want to talk about: City run groceries stores are actually quite common, and often in deep red areas. So it is not a crazy left idea. Most city owned grocery stores currently in existence are in very small towns where private stores will not open so the city is forced to open and run a full grocery store. In fact everyone I am aware of is in a highly red area. So this is in no way a crazy left or unheard of idea. |

You might have some credibility if you could name a few and what "deep red areas" you are talking about. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

https://www.ruralgrocery.org/learn/publications/case-studies/ Basically all of these are rural towns/cities of less than a 1000 (usually way less.) And, virtually all are deep red. Kansas has several. Florida had one (closed in 2024.). Wisconsin is in the process of opening one. Illinois has several, and not just in Chicago, rural areas... And, if you count military commissaries (grocery stores on military bases), the federal government owns a large chain of grocery stores. So, no, it is not unheard of. Most locally owned ones are in red areas, usually when a town is so small or remote it is not worth a company to open a full service grocery store. I have no issue with NYC opening their own chain of grocery stores as well. |
