...some young girl with a fourteen inch waist hoisting a mega weapon of laser death

Smoke filled fetid basement and people actually buy drinks and pour them on the floor, sing songs praising heroin use and celebrating prison life, homosexuality and prostitution.

Dark Cabaret... nudity is common.

...virtually no male is without a hat.

would that these changes were for the better.

Gee thanks. How much can I flog that award for?

"Flog"... to sell an item to a pawn broker.

Actually I think my description of a Rebetiko club in NE Florida was quite colorful and descriptive but narrowly focused and not stream of consciousness at all.

My reference to the fourteen inch waistline is an example of how the movie makers must cater to their youth market in all this zombie, vampire, aliens stuff because the girls in the audience are all 32B, fourteen inch waist types.

And as for Dark Cabaret's decline, I do indeed long for the days when there were generally an even number of people on a dance floor and female performers tended to keep their clothes on and sing without belly dancer accompaniment or aerial gymnastics that detract from the singing.

Ah well, so much for the Decline and Fall of American Entertainment.

Oh,,, and as for female stars and career decisions.... think back to the female lead in China Beach who wanted to break out on her own .... and made disastrous decisions regarding scripts. Skill, a following .... and then 'Career Death'.

I agree, but you do put a lot of topics in a single post.

Dana Delaney has had a pretty positive career.

Being a horror movie fan, I saw Blair Witch on Thursday.

Don't waste your time or money. It wasn't scary, just loud. So many "jump scares" where one character will loudly bump into another and they'll both scream. It was annoying.

The characters were annoying and obnoxious. In the end, I was rooting for the witch.

which reminds me, I have watched the final scene in the 1999 original over and over again but ... what the hell is supposed to be happening in that final scene, esp. the last few moments?

In this movie, they attempt to explain standing in the corner, but in my opinion, it only makes what happened at the end of the first one murkier.

Massive spoilers for Blair Witch (2016):

In this one, as sequels often do, the Blair Witch gets weighed down by some unnecessary additional mythology.

1) They explain she was captured by the townsfolk for witchcraft, taken to the woods, tied up high to a tree with rocks tied to her arms and legs, and left for dead. When they returned months later, there was no sign of her body.
2) They say that simply looking at the Blair Witch will cause instant death due to fright.
3) We actually get a couple quick glimpses of the witch at the end. She looks like a naked old witch with very long arms and legs (assumedly from being tied to a tree with rocks) - she is shaped kind of like the twig figures she leaves all over the place.

Anyway, near the end, the two surviving characters go into the same house from the end of the first movie. They are chased around by her. They also end up standing in the corner to avoid looking at the witch - as looking at her will cause death.

But, being a witch, she tricks them into looking at her and they both die. The end.

The movie is very similar to the first one, just not nearly as effective.

I thought for horror movie fans the most important day of the week was Friday, particularly if it was Friday the 13th. The essence of horror movies was caught in a GEICO advertisement wherein instead of getting into the running car, they decide to hide behind the chain saws.

That line at the end where she shouts "Let's head for the cematary" is excellent.

I missed that. Must learn to listen more carefully through these ancient ears. By the way, I think she shouts cemetery.
