Tesla owners in California get a warning to charge their cars before the power goes out

As Tesla owners race to beat the cutoff by Pacific Graft and Extortion, us preppers have a few 5 gal tanks for just such an emergency.

A century of infrastructure for vehicles based on fossil fuels has advantages

Well, in this case the "infrastructure" is having one or more 5 gallon gas cans.

You can't fill those up from a gas station when the power is out, either.

So you are saying electrics do not mostly run on fossil fuels?

Are you claiming the last hundred years of fossil fuel infrastructure was designed for electric vehicles?

I am claiming that most electricity comes from fossil fuels. Don't blame me that the average Tesla owner thinks electricity comes from an outlet like magic.

many electric cars are not hybrids and with advances in batteries, electrics will boom.

It's been all over the local news last week, the enviro's are trying to have Glen Canyon dam removed again.

Also some private group is working with the native tribes to dam up the little Colorado in a remote part of the state.

Should they succeed in removing GC dam, that would require a heck of a lot of windmills to replace the generating capacity of that dam.

"With a total capacity of 1,320 megawatts, Glen Canyon Powerplant produces around five billion kilowatt-hours of hydroelectric power annually"

An electric is not a hybrid. A hybrid is a hybrid. An electric is an electric. What does "hybrid" have to do with evs?

Battery advancement will take a generation if it ever happens.

For the first time since the 1882, Britain has gone for an entire week without using coal-generated electricity.
The National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO), which which runs the network in England, Scotland and Wales, confirmed that on May 8 that Great Britain has not used any coal for the production of electricity for a full seven days – a landmark figure of 168 hours without coal-powered electricity. There have been over 1,000 hours of coal-free electricity production so far in 2019.

Although getting off coal generation is probably a good thing unless they are state of the art plants the spin put on it is the coal is being replaced by carbon free energy. Almost 50% of their power comes from natural gas. Nuclear is the second largest method. Renewables are about 10% of their production.

I'm a fan of Tesla, but I want to go on record stating that their stock is currently extremely overpriced and it's absolutely not worth its insane trading price of $569/share. (It's up 140% just in the last 4 months!) It's a bubble, and this bubble will eventually pop.

Irrational exuberance.
