I turned on the TV today and thought somebody was celebrating Gay pride month and then realized it was the coronation of the new king of England. Could have fooled me..

It’s not like there’s materially more gun owners or guns in this country as there were 20-30 years ago. In the meantime car safety features reducing crashes (the warnings, backup cameras and auto braking specifically) have improved exponentially while America’s mental health crisis and lack of responsibility use of guns have gotten exponentially worse. Same numbers of guns and cars, but different behaviors with each. Gun sales have gone up, but we know a considerable amount of that is some passionate/semi crazy gun owners stockpiling whenever they fear more regulations.

I’m not saying there’s not problems…but framing it like we’re suddenly flooded with guns that weren’t there before school shootings were as frequent is intellectually dishonest pooey. Overall gun death rate well below US peak, suicide death rate and mass shootings at all time highs, tells us the primary factor is mental health, an all time high of bat shit crazy Americans.

EXACTLY! A segment of the population believes anything is some kind of crisis if they get told so on TV. These are the same people who thought that the world would end by 2020 because in 2000 Algore said we had just 20 years left to end the "crisis of climate change." They are the same people who in the late 2010s started to claim they always believed there were more than 2 genders. They are the same ones who thought Trump said "drink bleach" and in some cases did.

They are the lowest informed yet think they are the best informed.

Why do you think the USA leads the planet in Children gun shot deaths and school shootings
All countries struggle with mental health so that cant be the reason

When I had the bar many moons ago the stupidest people I met always thought they were the smartest people, it was really pretty amusing. They were literally so stupid they could not grasp how stupid they really were. Very dangerous people because you could not reason with them, all you could do is try not to make them angry.

Total guns has more than doubled over the past 30 years. Up 126%.
Total cars up 40%

The percentage of households owning firearms is about what it was 30 years ago. 45%. But the number of households has increased and the total number of guns owned has risen from 192 million in 1994, to 434 million in 2020. That includes 20 million assault rifles. Must be millions higher than that today.

The number of cars on the road increased by 80 million vehicles since 1994. Up 40%.

The remarkable thing about episodes like this from All in the Family is that they were written by Hollywood liberals not by right-wing conservatives. They were written by a room full of dope smoking hippie Hollywood liberals with probably a few gay guys thrown in there and they thought this stuff was funny because it was the 1970s and it was funny. This show was number one. I watched it every week everybody did, and we laughed our asses off. And nobody complained, the show was on for 11 years and there was no attempt by any group to shut it down. Put something like this on TV now, it couldn't be done. Liberals have totally lost their sense of humor.
