....Can someone explain why the government is printing an extra $2,400 to give them?

I can see no rational reason they are receiving stimulus money.
It is only fair that they should get a piece of the bailout, since it is they that will spend the rest of their lives paying back the trillions given to the banks. I hope they enjoy it.

I'm happy for my kids, of course. But we as a country should have a budget, and spend our tax dollars wisely. To me, paying unemployment benefits would be acceptable during this crisis. Just giving money to fully employed people who have had their expenses cut is just plain stupid. The response that it is easier to just give out $150,000,000,000 because it would be difficult to figure out who really needs it is pathetic. You want the $1,200, fill out a form saying you are unemployed. They are already doing so for their state unemployment benefits.

The 1200 is to provide a cushion, that is why workers get it.

People unemployed already get a generous stimulus base UI plus 600 a week (which is more than most Americans make working).

The 1200 is hardly a problem, it is a small reward/cusion to those still working and risking their saftey while incurring increased expenses (such as childcare since schools are closed, increased medical expenses, etc...).

I feel your anger at one small portion is misguided:

$510bn - Lending for large businesses, governments

$377bn - Small business loans and grants

$290bn - Direct payments to most Americans

$280bn - Cuts to business taxes

$260bn - Expanded unemployment benefits

$180bn - Funding for hospitals, healthcare

$150bn - Support for state, local governments

$72bn - Transportation, public transit

$42bn - Social safety net, food and housing

$45bn - Federal emergency disaster assistance

$32bn - Increased spending on education

$19bn - Reductions in individual taxes

$25bn- Misc.

Donny has ordered that his name be on people’s stimulus checks.

The president is not legally authorized to sign the checks, so his signature will appear on the memo line.

Now THAT is funny.

SooPoo, I think the reason they get it is because the government wants it spent to help the small and midsize businesses.

That's okay. It will only serve to remind people that Trump is the only President who is a big enough ass to special order such a thing.

Curious to anyone who has received their stimulus already: did you have a refund in 2019? We had no refund in 2019 (taxes due), but we did have a refund in 2018 (with valid DD info). My theory is they started with the folks who had info on their 2019 return. Or maybe it's alphabetical, LOL. Still waiting on our Pelosi-McConnell Bux(TM).

The money was in my account 4/13/2020.

I have not filed 2019's taxes as I will owe money.

We did have a very small refund in 2018.

The money for my daughter was in the account 4/13/2020.

Her taxes were filed for 2018 and 2019; she had refunds both years.

My BIL did not file taxes the past two years due to low income. He was whining about not getting it direct deposited due to no tax filing. He did nothing about it. It took me about two minutes to find the IRS site for putting your information in if you are in a situation like that. He completed that yesterday. We will see when he gets is money, but it is crazy that we pay for his phone (he has minimal work for years but refuses to go to retail stores and apply; he has a valet job at a luxury senior home after an unsuccessful stint as a realtor and failing bus driving school) for internet service and he can't be bothered to look up crap to help himself. He uses the most data on our bill each month. I just don't get it. Okay, rant over...
