I'm really having a hard time keeping up with this theory and conversation. First, the socialist policies must be defined and not let to just continue being whatever anybody wants at the time. Second, it must be discussed how this has caused shortages and is the main reason.

To me the simple reason for shortages are the dynamics which make something unprofitable to produce. It is either the materials cannot be found, the labor cannot be found or either is too expensive, then could also be a distribution problem. It's probably just another thing which cannot be solved by our corrupt political system anyway and contributing factors which are unpleasant are probably being ignored.

Then there is of course the idea people are buying more than they need causing shortages.

In theory a centrally planned economy would not cause shortages. In practice, the feedback loop of whether companies make a profit or not, is gone, and though the socialist controllers could pay attention anyway, they don't. The inefficiencies mount and the products the consumers actually want get in short supply, raising prices. The government then institutes price controls, which is definitely going to cause shortages.

As far as this country goes, ask yourself how we have gotten to this point in vehicle sales in the US. Do we see the effects of government central planning here? I think so,

It's a sign of carbon credits (carbon tax) are coming to the masses.

Good chart and good example.

My opinion of green energy is the transition cannot be done prematurely.

For example, right now there are many new coal plants meeting demand.

So it could defeat the purpose of green energy unless the capacity is available.

I think the transition has to be much slower, and let free markets choose it, not forced by folks in the government.

Pretty sure, the evidence is in, too many citizens aren't interested in supporting the timeline of conversion voluntarily, and many don't accept it. Frankly, belief the free market is going act in a timely manner is pretty much wishful thinking.

Consider crude oil.

We vote with our dollars.

Do we buy American oil, Saudi Arabian oil, Iraqi oil, Russian oil, Venezuelan oil, etc.?

We really have no way of knowing as a consumer which country produced the oil.

If we restrict domestic oil production, then are we supporting the difference of treatment of women in regards to rights?

As a general position, I'm for getting off centralized energy production as much as possible. I don't want to support energy from a nuclear plant, coal, oil, or a big solar boiler station. Why should I want to send a check to another energy conglomerate even if it's a new greener one?

That's why I prefer answers that produce energy at your own residence. Solar panels, wind, geothermal, water, gravity generator, or whatever thing someone may come up with. Of course, I want clean energy methods though.

I'd rather pad a Texan's pocket than not support women.

We used to have a matriarchal society.

So now we are scared of women?

That'd be a major weakness.

Any human should be able to marry their choice.

That's a simple example but there are many abuses in women's rights.

So what do we do?

We restrict oil production.

That's offensive IMO.

Good NYT article via yahoo showing how the GOP rails against spending in public but in reality is a spend spend party.
