Reopening fiasco?

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25013 | People are showing up for the Olympics in Japan with fake covid tests and fake vaccination certificates, both tourists and Olympic team members. Covid has gotten so bad the Olympic torch has been banned from running a couple of the islands and it has been taken off all major public streets in Tokyo. But these idiots are still going on with the games when it's obvious the pandemic is far from over. It's tourist season in New York City and restaurants and bars are filling to capacity with nobody wearing masks. Authorities are waiting to see the outcome. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Meanwhile, I will be taking my third post-mask Vegas trip next week. Thank Pfizer! “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

Did you get covid before vaccinations? And don't say anything about a mask they don't do jack. What saved you then? And you think I'm the deluded one. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

OnceDear Member since: Nov 21, 2017 Threads: 11 Posts: 1512 | I'll answer that for me and my immediate family. None of us got covid ever. And I don't particularly attribute that to masks, though we did wear them when in shops. I attribute it almost exclusively to avoiding the infected, which meant staying out of busy places and being quite socially distant. I figure that was the secret of EB's success, too. Let's see how adventurous EB will choose to be without his jabs? BUT. Now we are double jabbed, we can recommence being socially close : Dining out : Visiting family. |

Life has to go on. Disaster was predicted after Sturgis last year and it never happened. The President is a fink. |

Not to my knowledge. If I had it, I was completely asymptomatic. What saved me? Masking up and social distancing. Sorry if reality is upsetting to you! “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

What saved YOU, EB? Is this a clue?
All eminently sensible. You saw little value in masks, but saw the obvious benefits of social distancing. I can sure agree on that. It was the best defence we had. That was then. This is now. But now you have a new choice: Do you get fully vaccinated and get back in circulation, or not. You seem to be denying yourself some freedom. I have to assume you either don't trust the vaccine, or else it's a risk reward thing that doesn't stack up for you. We know you don't value dining out. Don't you miss anything that involves close contact with SOMEONE? Some crowded situations? Enjoy, your continued self imposed bugging in. The sort of thing I'd have expected you to have scoffed at others for being such scaredy cats. In what scenario can you envisage getting out and about? ever? Me and AMS and many others.... Tentatively venturing out, head above the parapets, because we are vaccinated and safER than if we were not. NOT invincible, but back in the comfortable risk reward zone. And then there's that other member. Scoffed at all of those of us who even perceived an unacceptable risk. I chuckle when I think how much greater the risk will be for him and his like. We vaccinated zombies with our few super spreading younger folk now opening up, mingling freely and ready to hug each-other and ready to hug and cough on him. Tick Tock. |

Any educated person knows that it can happen. I think the last estimate of vaccine effectiveness was around 95% at preventing infection. So you have a 1/20 chance compared to a non vaccinated person to get it. So it is FAR less likely to happen, not impossible. |

OnceDear Member since: Nov 21, 2017 Threads: 11 Posts: 1512 | Less likely to get infected, AND THEN less likely to get seriously ill IF they get infected. A DOUBLE SHIELD. A LOT Less likely, to ultimately infect your loved ones. Small probability multiplied by small probability. And if those loved ones and our peers get vaccinated, it's a virtuous circle. Why would anybody not? Like an inverse zombie apocalypse. We the vaccinated are the many dangerous zombies. Zombies don't harm zombies. Not dangerous to each-other, but pity that poor or stupid guy in the minority that has not been vaccinated and ventures amongst us. Sorry. Did I just cough on you? Oh hum. Not my problem! Oh. And did you notice that the VAST MAJORITY of those that die or become seriously ill are the older amongst us, the over 50s. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/investigations-discovery/hospitalization-death-by-age.html |
