pretty silly, I pretty much don't go into the ocean anywhere anymore, but this has always kind of bothered me. So I looked it up finally

An article from buzzfeed, on teachers happier leaving their jobs

Quote:
Maggie noted that the main difference she sees between her current and former jobs is the way each employer respected her time and boundaries. "At Costco, I am able to walk away from my job after clocking out. Even if a member is unhappy, I am not going to be emailed by them, harassed by them or pressured to do something unethical to appease them," she said. "As a teacher I was under constant pressure from parents and administrators, and was anxious all the time."

I could see how big a headache it would be to argue with a parent how “their kid” was more important than anything else in the world and that you’re there to sacrifice your sanity and free time to go the extra mile. Not for me. I’d rather clean pens at the animal shelter.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

how many of us could easily have become teachers, if we didn't look out?

for baby boomers, you would have faced a situation where they needed less teachers, at least in many areas. Not good.

Terrible job

Apparently at Costco she is not on a management track.

Such a sad sight.
Some of the homeless near where I live.
There is a lady pushing a shopping cart full of all of her belongings.
The cart is so heavy she can barely push it.
Some of these people, they need everything; a place to live, food, medical care, mental health care.
I think some of them are so far gone they barely know their own names and many probably don't know their S.S. nos. which is essential to get Government aid.
There's no way the local government can handle a problem this large.

to me, to be seeing this sort of thing reveals the thinking going on in certain camps, the socialist/climate-change/environmentalist influencer types. More of the "let them eat cake" while "we" of course will have air conditioning

I bought a $40 swamp cooler last summer. I actually like it as I don't get as many colds as I did with regular AC.

One of my Las Vegas houses had a swamp cooler in the garage. I was shocked that the unit was so big for a two car garage. I lived in that house for 15 years and never once used the swamp cooler. To be fair, I don't think that I ever spent more than five minutes in the garage at a time.

I got my tax document from my brokerage yesterday and I freaked out.
I had made a couple of large (for me) trades early in 2022 that I had forgotten about.
I saw the capital gains and thought I was going to owe a gigantic amount of tax because of it.
It took me quite a while, it shouldn't have, but I finally realized it was a long term capital gain.
Because it's long term I will owe nothing in taxes.
Short term capital gains are taxed just like income.
What a relief.

there is no way long term cap gains are not taxed, that is, if it is in a normal account, not a Roth or something
