It was good. But I don't think it's this masterpiece that the reviews are making it out to be.

I just saw it.

I was disappointed. I fell like the previews were better than the movie. But it can best be summed up by what I overheard someone say while leaving the theater "A two-hour movie that could have been wrapped up in thirty minutes."

The heptapods were interesting. No mouth, no eyes, no nose. Cool. But really they were just
a gimmick to mess with cinematic language. That is, with the assumptions that scenes presented as flashbacks are flashbacks.

I liked the kangaroo scene.

Now, an intellectual movie, one dealing with ideas, should leave open questions. This one does manage it.

All that aside, there lots of SF previews this time.

Tomorrow I'll try to see Rogue One.

How does an R-rated horror film end up on an airline? Don't they edit out everything that makes the film what it is?

I didn't know it was R rated. Nothing in the United Airlines version seemed worth of an R rating. I've seen other R rated moves I knew well on airlines and they did a lot of creative editing to take the edge off and in the process, ruin the movie.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to have individual video monitors and let people have their own entertainment be it R rated or X rated? Or just rig for internet and tell people to use your laptops and watch whatever you want to.

That's how most movies are shown these days. I agree with you. However, I'm sure the airlines don't want to offend anybody. I could picture angry letters complaining that their kid could see nudity on somebody else's screen.

The airlines are not required to edit R-rated films on private viewers. The owners of the airlines do exercise private control based on their own standards. Obviously the Arab airlines censure sex more than violence.

Nudity on in-flight entertainment unregulated, easily viewed by children By Hollie McKay Published November 07, 2012

European standards are different. The Spanish movie in 1989 with a scene where Victoria Abril masturbates with a toy didn't raise many eyebrows in Spain, but got the film an X-rating in the USA. They released it without rating in the USA, but it was an important film behind the September 1990, MPAA introduction of the rating "NC-17" to distinguish between European films with content aimed at adults, and simple porn.

Yeah, after dragging some noisy brat around the plane slowing people from selecting decent seats and loading the plane faster some woman then sues the airline for exposing her son to things he has already seen plenty of anyway. Libraries seem to solve the problem by making terminalls viewable only from directly in front, not oblique angles. However, I guess you are correct: lawyers would go for the airline's jugular.

I fly Delta a lot. Most Delta planes are being upgraded with the entertainment screen on the back of each seat.

They do edit out nudity for movies on those little screens. I haven't watched any movies with extreme violence, but I'd assume they edit that out too.

I understand it is an issue in Japan where people often spend a huge amount of time on commuter trains. This businessmen's scowl looks like he worrying about a bad trend on a spreadsheet, but the reflection betrays that he is actually looking at hentai.

You can imagine the day when augmented reality will allow you to look at a woman on the subway and do an instant photoshop of her head on the body of a bikini clad girl.

If the woman is too chunky next to you, just view her through a special screen to make her look more svelte

Passengers

Wait to watch it on a plane someday...

It's entertaining, but I can't say its a "good" movie. If you like Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, then I'd recommend it. Otherwise, don't go out of your way to see it.

Damm
The idea looked good and I love science fiction

What is it with movies these days?
The writing is terrible.
Is special effects getting the big budget while scrimping on the writing?
To me, a good story makes the movie.
