Lots of billionaires in China now, and they run
things, just like the rich do in every country.

A big part about being a superpower is control of the seas. Missiles carrying atomic weapons means that no one will attack you. Land based ICBMs and airplanes are incredibly vulnerable.

Both the USA, Russia, UK and France understand that the Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile with nuclear warheads is fundamental to being a superpower, because once they are at sea, no one knows where they are. Submarines are the most significant portion of the triad.

All of China's coast is continental shelf

Taiwan is one example of an island with a shore near deep water. North Korea is another.

That's the hilarious thing about N Korea. They
have a huge navel force, but everything is
from the 50's to the 70's and is worn out
and outdated. Their subs are 50's - 60's
and have loud diesel engines. They can
be easily heard by spy planes flying a mile
overhead. They never get more than 30
miles off the shore of N Korea because
they break down all the time.

Why doesn't China place submarine bases in North Korea?

US and Russian boomers don't patrol too far away from home. Just far enough to be in the open sea in order to be hard to detect and track (not impossible), and to be close enough to their targets. Granted Taiwan makes for a better base, but NK would do, and they're allegedly allies.

North Korea is not that far from their own coastline. Why path NK rent and give them a bargaining chip over you.

How is Santa being white germane to the myth? s/
The Gxx Dxxxxxx Germans have nothing to do with this.

In Scandinavia Santa is depicted as white but accompanied by a nubian cherub; a depiction that has come under recent attack in Denmark.

Cleopatra was Greek..... and she was a teenager.

Well, navel oranges have thick skins.

Israel's nuclear submarine never even enters the Mediterranean since it is too shallow.

Well you don't really know where the US boomers go as that information is TOP SECRET. The Russian boomers tended to go to the green areas at the top of this map, where the trajectories would take the missiles over Canada.

China and North Korea have a semi-friendship. But placing assets as valuable as submarines in another country where foreign powers are trying to bribe people for information is fairly foolhardy.

There is a lot more infrastructure involved in a submarine base than an airstrip.Have you seen the Chinese submarine pen at Yulin in the south?

Typically military systems do not operate on the "good enough" principle. Or at least when they do, lots of people tend to regret it (see the M-16's troubled history). This means a missile designed to travel 7,000 kilometers would probably be able to travel 7.500-8,000 in real life. it's the same principle for having mid-air refueling (bigger loads, more range).

But a reason to keep SLBMs nearer an enemy is to give them less time to react.

And then the Soviets were all sort of crazy. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a plan to nuke the US with close-in SLBMs and then blame France for it, or claim no one can tell whose missiles those were. maybe the Americans nuked themselves.

I wonder at the chronic inability of totalitarian states to form useful alliances, never mind long-lasting ones. About the worst thing Germany did in WWII was to get allies (but then hitler was so inept and incompetent).

No, but I know a little about submarines. You need tenders, an army of qualified mechanics, means to handle nuclear fuel, etc. Dry-docks are nice, too (and big and expensive as hell)
