I've seen the first two eps of Young Sheldon. It's ok, but not to the level of TBBT. besides, it has a lot of continuity to keep.

They seem to be trying to coordinate themes.
TBBT "The Explosion Implosion" October 16, 2017 Howard and Sheldon go out in the desert to test launch a model rocket, but it explodes.
Young Sheldon "Rockets, Communists, and the Dewey Decimal System" November 2, 2017 His mother lifts the ban on Sheldon's model rocketry hobby.

But I can't believe that this show will exceed TBBT in ratings. It must be a temporary thing as the show is new.

I saw Jim Parsons once express his horror at the idea that he would still be playing this character when he was age 50. Well now he is age 44, and he may be doing the character at least in voice over until he is age 50.

I think at 200,000 an episode she can afford to refuse to meet male producers in a hotel suite.

Ratings may have slipped a bit but they are still high enough to generate advertising revenue.

If you are referring to Kaley Cuoco, she is very well paid at $1M per episode. She had made good money since she was a teen, and certainly does not have to solicit business.

But TBBT makes $285,908 for a 30 second spot. Even if they sell 15 spots every 30 minute episode that is nowhere near enough to cover the actor's collective salaries which are somewhere north of $6M per episode. The actors are paid that much because of the revenue from reruns and syndication. Also the show drags up the ratings of shows that follow it.

Here they were shown weeks apart.

there's character continuity, too. Sheldon does seem very much himself. His mom, Mary, kind of channels the older Mary Cooper as seen on TBBT now and then, but not always. She seems less fanatical Christian than in TBBT, for one thing. Sheldon's dad, George, is not at all what I expected. I imagined a strict, mean, absent father, half-drunk half the time.

Probably not. I give it three seasons at most. That is, it will last as long as TBBT, which has about two seasons left, and then one more. If you see an ep with a young Leonard or a young Howard, that's curtains.

If I'm wrong and "Young Sheldon" lasts all the way through grad school, how close would he come to Kelsey Grammer's record of playing the same character in two different shows the longest?

Frasier was a character on prime time for 20 years as well James Arness' portrayal of Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke.

There have been only 9 non-animated sitcoms to last more than 10 years.

Don't forget Detective Munch! :)

The character of Munch has appeared in a total of nine series on five networks since the character's debut in 1993. Apart from Homicide and SVU, however, Belzer's performances as Munch were guest appearances or crossovers rather than regular or recurring appearances. With Munch's retirement in the character's 22nd season on television, he was a regular character on U.S television longer than Marshal Matt Dillon (Gunsmoke) and Frasier Crane (Cheers and Frasier), both of whom were on television for 20 seasons. Munch's return to help his friends in the SVU seventeenth-season episode "Fashionable Crimes" marks the 23rd season that the character has appeared on television in any capacity.

Really? That piece of crap lasted so long?

Chuck Lorre, Lee Aronsohn, Don Reo & Jim Patterson wrote the final episode. They broke the fourth wall with some of the dialogue.
  • Now, if I can, uh, offer you a word of advice Mm-hmm? I would consider wrapping this whole thing up.
  • Uh, what do you mean? I mean the whole living arrangement.
  • The kids, the girls, the beach house.
  • I mean, this whole thing has been going on way too long.
  • Yeah, a lot of people been saying that.
  • Haters gonna hate.

I saw a few eps in the first season and totally lost interest. I knew it stayed on, and the whole Charlie Sheen pseudodrama off screen. But I'd no idea it lasted that long.

I really liked that series for the first five years or so.

BTW, I had never heard of Munch until Paco gave his post. The only television I watch anymore are reruns of older comedies. I currently have a lot of MASH on my DVR.
At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent.

I never saw his "Homicide" series. I know he was on SVU, but he was a very secondary character on background, rarely doing much that was memorable.

he's the kind of character you don't much recall, but know instantly if you're reminded of him.
