I think it was a stupid plotline. Asexual people are very rare, and it diminishes the character a lot.

In real life the Sheldon character is in his
40's. I have no idea how old they are
supposed to be, but they all look late
30's at least.

I think they are all supposed to be late 20's. Everyone except Kaley is playing younger than true age.

41.9 Jim Parsons
39.8 Johnny Galecki
39.1 Mayim Balik
34.6 Melissa Rauch
34.1 Simon Helberg
33.8 Kunal Nayyar
29.2 Kaley Cuoco

Kaley was age 21 when she shot the pilot but she and Johnny Galecki were child actors

Johnny Galecki was age 16 when he began in Roseanne, but he was about 11 for his first role.

Kaley Cuoco's age for TV/film roles
8 Northern Exposure
9 Virtuosity (Denzel Washington film)
10 Little Ellen Degeneres
15 Ladies Man (8 episodes)
16 Simple Rules (76 episodes)
19 Charmed (22 episodes)

It fits in perfectly with Sheldon's character.

I think they are contractually obligated for 59 more episodes at $1 million apiece * 3 principal actors. The last one was episode #172. It is still the highest ranked scripted show on TV for the under 50 viewership craved by advertisers.

Last night's episode #173 "The Troll Manifestation" had some laugh out loud moments, but ratings are still down from last year. I think they have peaked, even though they are still the highest ranked sitcom.

Two and a Half Men is down to it's final three episodes
260 "Don't Give A Monkey A Gun" February 12, 2015
261 "Of Course He’s Dead – Part One" February 19, 2015
262 "Of Course He’s Dead – Part Two" February 19, 2015

Black-ish (the shining new sitcom) has been plunging in ratings since the premier as it turns out that a sitcom about an upper middle class black family trying to de-whiten may not have legs.

The Simpson's in it's 26th year is zooming in the under age 50 group and has returned to the top 10 seemingly boosted by the 12 day marathon sessions on FXX. Harry Shearer is now age 71 (Principal Skinner, Kent Brockman, Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Dr. Hibbert, Lenny Leonard, Otto Mann, Rainier Wolfcastle, Dr. Marvin Monroe and many others). Julie Kavner who plays Marge is now age 64.

And Marge is still in her 30s. That hardly seems fair.

The Simpsons is the longest-running prime time entertainment program with a consistent setting and recurring characters. While other prime-time shows have run longer, they are all news, sports, anthology or variety programs. Gunsmoke still has the record number of episodes (635)

However, the Simpsons will have 574 episodes at the end of this season, and with these high ratings it is almost certain to be renewed for at least 3 years (22 episodes per season) which will put them at 640.

FOX's top ranked shows in the 18-49 demographic are:
Empire (renewed) FOX 4.13
American Idol (Weds) FOX 3.13
The Simpsons (renewed) FOX 2.78
American Idol (Thurs) FOX 2.67
Family Guy FOX 2.64

Now and then this cable channel runs a few old eps followed by a new or newish one. There are remarkably few changes. Perhaps the most notable one is that while no one has aged, naturally references to pop culture and current history change a great deal over time.(*)

There's been subtle changes to the characters (Homer is more stupid than before), but in essence they remain the same. also, recurring characters tend to revert to type if they change. Sideshow Bob went from homicidal maniac, to a reformed and respectable citizen (he even saves Bart and Lisa), back to homicidal maniac, to the respected Mayor of an Italian town, and back to a homicidal maniac; but he still loves Gilbert & Sullivan operettas. Barney's been on and off the wagon so much I can't keep up.

(*) This also happens in Futurama, which frustrates some fans. After all, Fry left off in the eve of the year 2000, therefore he wouldn't know anything of the years immediately following.

Nobody younger than their early 30's can
remember when the Simpsons weren't on.
Nobody younger than their mid 40's can
remember when SNL wasn't on.

I think they are overthinking the show a little

As Doctor Who is now going into it's 52nd year, in the UK you have to be close to 60 to remember seeing the pilot episode.

Of course, now the bisexual alien, Captain Jack, kisses both Rose Tyler and Doctor Who for exactly the same amount of screen time. The actor timed himself. There were no bisexual aliens in 1963.

Not to disagree. I've never met anybody who professed to be asexual. However, I've known plenty of men who never showed any interest in women, or men. Much like Sheldon, they didn't have any romantic interest in anybody, at least that I knew of, and lived in their own world.
