every type of energy we use for power has a certain argument against it ... many/most environmentalists are against hydropower. Michael Moore did a film with a devastating critique of solar power

Nuclear can and will only become viable again when a permanent site is chosen to forever store / dump all of the county's nuclear waste.

Hello, Yucca Mtn.

With Harry now dead the feds should be able to steamroll it through.

Nevadans can be bought. If someone just posed it as every adult in Nevada will be given $1000 if we can store our nuclear dump in Nevada. That vote would probably pass with 90% accepting.

Between the accidents and storage concerns, public resistance to more nuclear plants doesn't seem unusual at all. That's changing.

In the 1960s comics about Valerian, these little animal poop energy batteries that power the entire civilization.

In the real world the process of generating energy from a primal source involves some kind of byproduct. Coal and petreleum yield a lot of carbon dioxide. Natural gas yields less carbon dioxide but fracking is the cheapest way to extract it. Nuclear yields nuclear waste but produces no carbon dioxide. Solar will require massive batteries to make the electricity available at the times you need it (like early evening in the summer).

We could probably achieve most of what we are trying to do with EVs by simply returning to budget cars of the 1970s and 1980s.

A 2022 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Blue Compact car gets 60 mpg on h ighway, but the time for 0-60 mph is 10.5 seconds (139 hp combined ICE and electric motor).

Remember "cold fusion?"

We thought a panacea had been discovered: uh, nope, ain't nothin' behind this door.

But yeah, once / if we master fusion for energy production that could lead to a leap forward.

Than again it could open a portal to an alternate universe filled with trillions of vampire Trump clones, ya never know.

not dead, but always a decade away

to the tune of 'tommorow' from the musical 'Annie',

"cold fusion ~ cold fusion
I love ya
cold fusion
You're always a decade a way "

Brits want it so bad they're going to build a plant. I looked to see if the words " a decade away" could be found, no, but I think that's what they are thinking

Yup
I was in college in the late 1970s
We had a guest speaker on cold fusion
It was somewhat controversial since our science dept viewed him as a crackpot
He said it was right around the corner
Most of the audience was very skeptical

Volcanologist claims climate scientists aren’t telling you the truth.

Quote:
I know a lot of people working in climate science who say one thing in public but a very different thing in private. In confidence, they are all much more scared about the future we face, but they won’t admit that in public. I call this climate appeasement and I believe it only makes things worse. The world needs to know how bad things are going to get before we can hope to start to tackle the crisis.”

Does anyone else have a memory of more than three decades? These were the average horsepower numbers of the Asian brands from 1975 to 1990 (excluding Isuzu and Suzuki). Subaru did not surpass 100 hp until they began to manufacture cars in Indiana.

The first-generation Honda Accord was launched on 7 May 1976, while the second generation debuted on 22 September 1981. Honda began production in Marysville Ohio in November 1982, but that was more to avoid political backlash against Honda as it began to threaten Domestic automakers. The Plaza Accord was in 1985 when the world's central bankers decided to interfere in the foreign currency market with the goal of making the USD considerably weaker against the Deutsche Mark, the Great British Pound, and the Japanese Yen. By the late 1980s all the Japanese automakers had to move much of their production to Northern America simply because the JPY was too strong to make a profit by manufacturing in Japan. Acura was founded on 27 March 1986, Lexus was Founded in 1989, Infiniti on November 8, 1989.

Horsepower had to increase as they were no longer producing just budget vehicles.
