Yellin's 'Plunge Protection Team' can act independently, or at the request of the president.

I watch CNBC a lot
There are a lot of factors that effect the market. It's complicated because it's a planetary market with planetary issues. All these issues are discussed on CNBC.
One thing never ever mentioned is this " plunge protection team" . It's absurd. The President can't do Jack regarding a stock market dependent on global economic forces to determine its direction.
The dow was wacky yesterday
Did not see a single article regarding the plunge protection team yesterday or today

I’m sure many of us have seen the closing debate statements in the Wisconsin senate race. Johnson, what a dirtbag. I probably wouldn’t vote for Barnes anyway but zero chance for Johnson, who in their right mind wants a man of that character representing their state. Dude deserves to be made very uncomfortable any time he dares show his face in public, needs to be shown his “representation” is not appreciated.

if there is such a thing it wouldn't kick in at 20% down from the highs like now.

there is such a thing as a halt to trading during these things if precipitous enough

It exists. It was established by President Reagan in 1988 in response to Black Monday.

The PPT is the name given it by the WSJ. The real name is 'The Working Group on Financial Markets'. Members are the Sec. of the Treasury, Chairman of the SEC, Chairman of the Bd Of Governors of the Fed, Chairman of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission.

Yes, they could halt trading under certain circumstances and freak out investors, or they could prop up the markets artificially, by injecting cash.

There are various ways they can do that. Such as Repos and Reverse Repos.

The Fed has a seat on the Exchange, and there is an Open Markets Trading Floor at the Federal Reserve of New York. It can purchase stocks and bonds directly.

'Janet Yellen’s Plunge Protection Team Has $142 Billion to Play With'-2021

“…the Secretary or an agency designated by the Secretary, with the approval of the President, may deal in gold, foreign exchange, and other instruments of credit and securities the Secretary considers necessary.”

'Since stocks and bonds are “securities” in which the Treasury Secretary is allowed to intervene, Janet Yellen now sits atop her own Plunge Protection Team.'

VICKSBURG, Miss.—Sections of the Mississippi River are approaching low water levels not seen in more than three decades, disrupting a vital supply lane for agriculture, oil and building materials and threatening businesses including barge and towboat operators, farmers and factories.

The low water, caused by a lack of rain in the Ohio River Valley and the Upper Mississippi, has halted commercial traffic and river boat cruises at numerous spots below Illinois. Prices to ship goods have more than doubled in a matter of weeks. Barges are grounding on sandbars in unprecedented numbers and many ports and docks no longer have water deep enough for commercial boats to safely reach them.

Snow crab fishing season in Alaska’s Bering Sea has been canceled for the first time in history. Bristol Bay’s red king crab fishery will also be closed, for the second year in a row. Both decisions follow shellfish surveys that revealed startling population collapses.

Meanwhile CA wants to take that water. See why that is a bad idea?

More than 65,000 salmon were found rotting in a dried up waterway before being able to spawn, as reported by Gizmodo. Researchers say that this population of pink salmon could now take up to six generations to recover, even if there are no more die-off events.

A video of the disastrous scene, posted by William Housty and shot by Sarah Mund, is circulating on Twitter, showing the utter devastation.

The Fraser run is the main run, but not only run, and typically has 5 to 10 million currently. In the past it was 20 million or more. 65,000 is a drop in the bucket it is just another alarmist news story even if you accept their number. The video is of a relatively small stream on the Northern coast of BC.
