The French did not want to give up French Indo China after the war despite all the nationalist sentiment, arms and ammunition available.

The British had similar sentiments about Malaya's rubber and oil fields.

Heck, the Vietnamese beat the French Foreign Legion... anyone who can do that is determined to attain an ultimate victory.

We should have never attacked Viet Nam and committed war crimes
52K killed, blame that on Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon.
We committed war crimes and now arming them
Sounds like a good deal since we never really paid for the USA's war crimes against Viet Nam

Kennedy and mostly Johnson got us in, Nixon deescalated things, the troop number peaked just as he took office then fell as fast as it rose. But we did not commit any more war crimes than the north did.

As to arming them, smart move for now. Distracts China. Smart to let someone else help fight your battle. Never permanent allies, just permanent interests.

Nixon wouldn't end the war due to "peace with honor" BS
Sure the USA committed a ton of war crimes
The whole civil war was none of our business
What justification is there to cause a million Viet Nam citizens to die?

Not BS. Any smart leader knows that you want to negotiate peace from strength, not slither out with your tail between your legs.

I guess you have never heard of what happened to millions in Vietnam and Cambodia during the "reeducation" process?

Sure you do if you have no justification to be there waging war
In the end we slithered out with a tail between the legs
Slithering out earlier would have saved American lives
We were not negotiating from strength
We were losing and they knew it.

So what
We did not fight that war to prevent reeducation process

Learn about Operation Linebacker and how we forced them back to the negotiating table.

Hmmm, in my history class we fought it to prevent the spread of communism, which we knew killed en masse via "re-education" most places it spread to.

I practically agree with you in some respects.

Arming someone where the government is relatively stable and no major hostilities are underway is way to balance the power in the region before a major conflict occurs.

Letting it progress to a war or invasion and then arming them, or doing anything for that matter, is a lot less desirable.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

That is the dirty little secret of good foreign policy, just as you put it, except that we will tolerate small wars. The more money China has to put into an army to watch India and Vietnam the less they have to put into a navy that makes life harder for the USA.
