Indeed. the key is in the word 'war'

Singlehandedly he just put up the price of key raw materials by 25%. It's not other countries that pay that 25%: It's US companies and their US customers.
Don't complain when your next car costs 25% more and you can't afford to buy one made in the US.
You think this will help the US 'rust belt' economies? That boat has sailed and sunk.

And retaliation? Expect lots of it. China, Asia, South America, Europe will find uses for their steel and when you want that, or anything else, they will remember this day.

Oh hum. He's your president.

Agree
Tariffs are so stupid
The bottom line is the US economy thrives when the world economy thrives
Everything is intertwined
That's why smart republicans are against tariffs, its bad for business overall
What a moron we have for a President

That sounds like a blessing, not being stuck with crappy quality American cars.

I have a 2011 Japanese car assembled in Canada with parts from all over the world. What does that make it?

I would speculate a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic.

All the steel tariff will do is force the US manufacturers to send more manufacturing off shore where they can get cheaper steel. Net job losses in the end. What needs to happen is for the US steel manufacturers to get more efficient.

Can't. The Japanese have all the patents and modern steel mills. At WWtwo end we rebuilt Europe and Japan but US manufacturers had old plants that had been heavily used seven days a week three shifts a day with lots of deferred maintenance going on. And when Japan steel mills sold steel they got subsidies and sold real low which drove the US steel mills into bankruptcy.

The real damage to US steel mills occurred in the 80's. This was when the unions were still strong enough to fight anything that would cost jobs but make the mills more efficient. Canada rationalized their mills during this time and started exporting major quantities of steel to the US. Canada still accounts for 15% of the US steel imports but Canada also imports about the same amount of US steel.
