This is why your side is losing this battle so badly. He said Mexico would pay for it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN for years. You can’t just say “nobody cares” now and expect anyone to be okay with American taxpayers paying for the stupid thing. The Dems are playing this exactly right. I think this is the main takeaway point. When the Repubs had both houses he could not get the funding he wanted but he clearly waited until the Dems had the House to force a shutdown. Had he done a shutdown while all 3 (House, Senate, Prez) were Republican the Prez would have looked even worse than he does now. Kind of he looked while trying to end the ACA... |

He DID start the shutdown while all 3 were Republican. The shutdown started after funding for those 7 agencies ran out on Dec. 21, 2018, when all were still in power. They even came back to town, having left for Christmas, but couldn't get their act together. Blaming the Democrats is a political stunt. The Republicans did not fund this when they could have. Funds for the wall have been in both Trump budget requests. The Republican Congress did not appropriate the money. The Democratic House doesn't want to, either.
