A federal law ending bulk gun sales would help.

Currently, in most states, a person can purchase an unlimited number of firearms in one transaction.

50, 100, 1,000. No limit

Another law that would help, would be to require stolen weapons to be immediately reported under penalty of a large fine or imprsionment.

They then sell those firearms on the streets, and claim they were stolen only when the gun is used in a crime.

You might be right because since we passed laws against bulk purchases of heroin and cocaine we have won the war on drugs!

your point is not a good one because there are well developed organizations with a long history and expertise in smuggling narcotics into the U.S.

no such organization exists for guns because they can be distributed legally

if that changed - organizations such as those that smuggle narcotics would probably emerge - but that is speculation - and there is no guarantee that they would have the same success that they have had with narcotics

No, it’s a valid statement. A ridiculous statement is liberal whining that there would not be the gun violence in Democrat run cities if only “the republicans would pass gun laws.

They would absolutely spring up and absolutely have the same success. We cannot keep heroin out of prisons and you think a gun law will keep guns out of the USA? Har har had.

All such laws would do is make criminals out of good citizens wanting to defend themselves.

Criminals do not care about laws.

there were about 27% more suicides by gun than murders in 2021

people who commit suicide are not criminals

you stating this with authority does not make it a fact

it's just your opinion -

which has great value

to you - not to me - and not to many, many others

And suicides are not "gun violence." People will just find another way to kill themselves. My grandfather shot himself in the head. If not for the gun he probably would have just taken pills. Suicides are not a good reason to ban guns.

No, it's a fact. History shows anything in demand will be smuggled. We have a huge problem with human beings being smuggled into the USA. Now, if human beings can be smuggled in large numbers any intelligent person should realize guns can and will be.

Here is a another fact. If you take the 4-5 most gun violent cities out of the mix the "gun violence" numbers for the USA fall a great deal. Of course, cleaning up these cities is not going to be easy for the Democrats that run them so far easier to blame it all on "the Republicans!"

Because when these pols blame "the Republicans" the low information, below average intelligence crowd laps it all up and says it must be true as they do not use critical thinking like I have shown in this thread.

Poor example.

Cutting off the supply works.

After Oregon voters decriminalized possession of small amounts of hard drugs, the homicide rate in Portland went up 280%, and opioid overdose deaths went up 266%.

Ending bulk gun sales would not end the scourge of guns. It would severely limit the flow of illegal firearms into the cities and towns.

So you are saying there was no supply before it was decriminalized?

Like I said, we cannot keep heroin out of prisons with all their security. You think we can just ban guns?

Work on the post-1964 decline of society in the USA. Except we probably can't. Guns are not the problem, our violent society is the problem.

You still don't get it.

Ending bulk gun sales is not the same as banning guns.

It makes it harder for criminals to obtain firearms illegally.
