Because it makes you think. You have to get all your thoughts in a straight line before you post them, and doing so often makes you discover things you didn't know before. Time and again you hear people say they wrote their autobiographies for themselves, not for others. It forced them to examine their lives. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Exactly this. The reason I've subjected myself to the green name treatment was because I owed Wiz and had no other way to pay him. His site rocketed my professional career, and I felt I had to repay that. I never would've guessed the other boundless treasures I've found in this community. I've learned a little about the world, sure. A bit about gaming, a mess about people. But what I've learned about myself surprises me daily, all from exactly what EB just posted. Be bold and risk defeat, or be cautious and encourage it. |

I discovered it in the 90's, that I was only posting for myself. It made posting easier, and is why I have 15,000. For decades I heard famous authors say they wrote for themselves, and if they liked it, that was enough. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

1966 Italian Western starring Franco Nero (born 23 November 1941). Franco Nero had a bit part in the 2012 film. Fictional character's names often become nouns or adjectives if they have been around long enough. |

Many people have no inner monologue. Ask their opinion on something and they no organized thoughts on it because they've never thought about it. Posting on forums helps you clarify your positions. It's why a good psychologist will tell patients to keep a diary. Keeping a diary is difficult if you're not into self examination, that's the point of it. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

You mean Austin Powers isn't a real person? If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

While gambling itself is not objectively sinful the abuse of it is. Eating is not sinful, but if you eat 100 twinkes a day it is, or if you stuff yourself with food while people around you are starving it is sinful. Since sin is the easiest thing in the world to prove you and I must have different concepts of sin. You mention that it doesn't exist in the natural universe and maybe this idea is your problem. I agree that a dog commits no sin when it goes to the bathroom inside or attacks the baby rabbit in the yard. A asteroid does not sin when it crashes into a planet. If we were just natural beings acting on instinct without free will then how could we define sin? Yet we are obviously supernatural beings with a soul and free will. We feel shame when we spend our rent money on gambling or steal other people's money. We feel bad not just physically, but spiritually when we eat three large stuffed crust pizzas. We are not mindless or slaves to our passions. Just because we feel like gambling, eating, or fighting we can override our emotions and use our reason to do what we know is right. This results in a deep seeded joy the opposite of when we sin. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |
