For a product as important as healthcare, capitalism hasn't worked. It's pretty easy to see it's never going to become affordable through competition.

What on earth are you talking about? Compare available health care now to even the 1970s. Amazingly better.

Now, you do not get to see a doctor for $20. It cost $100 or more to get a diagnostic on your car yet people think a doctor visit is supposed to be cheap.

My age group of 70 + has almost a 98% survival rate. As a gambler those are pretty good odds.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Totally agree, those greedy researchers at Pfizer & Moderna should be taken out and shot in the public square.
No doubt a universal health care system with crammed down pricing would have produced better vaccines & quicker.
I mean look at all the other quality Covid vaccines produced outside our horrible US System being used around the world.
70% efficacy is good enough, don't let anyone tell you differently!
The nerve of US Big Pharma, getting a vaccine with 95% efficacy developed in under 12 months.
Didn't they realize there were a lot more over 65 year olds that needed to die to make the Medicare/Soc. Sec. Trusts solvent again.
I hope people are refusing the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine & waiting for the FDA to approve the Chinese/Russian alternatives.
I am pretty sure those Commies didn't file for patent protection so there should be generic pricing from Day 1.
Astra Zeneca vaccine is likely here first, but I think they also filed for US Patent protection and again, 70%. It's up to you.
If you reward capitalism by taking BIg Pharma's patented vaccines & medications, you're just part of the problem.
Stick to your convictions, refuse on patent medications & if there isn't a generic yet, just wait or use an older generation alternative Rx.
You may have to wait a while for you Covid vaccine. Don't fret, just stay locked in your home and keep buying those KN-95 masks.

Amusing.

Sure we could take away all the university based medical discoveries over the years and see how capitalism did on its own. Vaccine and other medical research is built on a long history. Pfizer and German company Biotech did the last mile of a marathon. Or maybe better to call it a triathlon. More than that, medical research discoveries occur all over the world in history. Not just the USA.

Somehow you both make my point and miss it at the same time.

Let's see how many people end up in bankruptcy from servicing their car vs paying for medical care. Likewise, you can probably take the bus, or take uber, or get a ride. You need a new heart, or emergency care, there often isn't so much a waiting option available or some alternative.

The thing is capitalism has made many more treatment options, better options. Do you want 1950s care just cheaper? Or instead of a Corvair that cost $9,000 new today do you want an Escape with modern tech?

No one is ever happy with my position. I argue that capitalism works in most cases. But not all.

And as you know, I don't believe that simple buyer seller decisions are good enough and am considered an over-regulator.

I'd like to say, a consumer can just look at food and perform the proper function of rejecting it based on personal knowledge. But even that simple capitalistic process is affected by usage of everything from bio-enhancements and pesticides, and maybe even fertilization methods.

Then there's the more complex things like not knowing if your airbag is killing you with projectiles. I feel the cost of regulation must be born by everyone not thrown out as a commie trick.

Yes, by a Russian surgeon that I have great respect for.

I was assigned an orthopedic surgeon that did his training in Bakersfield California, sadly he wasn't available the day of my first appointment so I was assigned a different surgeon. This one was trained at Johns Hopkins. I don't know a whole lot about medicine but I believe Johns Hopkins beats Bakersfield every time.
I have need of spinal surgery, Cervical and Lumbar. The insurance I have said they will pay for one procedure each, but they don't pay for "re-do's". So pick the right one is the message I took away from it.

One of the surgeons [Lumbar] that I spoke with does the repeat surgery's for Arizona. That kind of scares me poopless, that this guy is basically assigned to go in and redo screw ups. One I spoke with said, "don't even get cut until you have to drag your leg in here", which is the policy I've been working under

They are playing Arizona which is one of the worst teams in the country. Should be an easy win for the Ducks.
At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent.
