Why not? Politics is a profession and experience counts in all professions. |

The founders of the Constitution wanted offices in Congress to be filled by people who would work for one term and then go back to the farm and let somebody else do it. It was never meant to be a lifetime position, far from it. This is what ruined politics in Europe and they saw that and they did not want that to happen here. But of course it did as it always does. What we just witnessed was absolutely the reason the founders wanted it this way. After Obama was elected in 2008 the plan was to have the Democrats in office basically forever. They groomed Hillary Clinton to run in 16 by making her Secretary of State so she would have some credentials on top of being a US senator. Then she was to get elected for two terms, with Obama always working in the background, and 2024 was supposed to be an easy win after Hillary's time was up. This is why they were letting so many illegals into the country to create more democratic districts in Congress. What they didn't count on is Hillary being be such a god-awful candidate in 2016 and Donald Trump coming along and with the sheer power of his personality winning the presidency. Did you ever wonder why there was such a media Jihad after Trump was elected to get rid of him? He was the proverbial Monkey Wrench in the works and he had to go at any cost. They threw everything including the kitchen sink at him for the last 8 years and none of it worked. What's odd is Trump is the only one that could have survived all this. In my opinion it's the simulation at work but that's a whole different story. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Exactly! For some reason lefties are enamored with people spending years and years in politics. They think people like Hillary are noble for being in "public service" all their lives. They think DC is some sort of royal place. The do not get why some GOP House members live out of their Capitol offices, not wanting to spend more time there than they have to. If we had a 16 year limit in the House it would be a great thing. No more having to be there 20 years to get any standing to do things. Might take only 6-8, which would be enough time to learn what is going on but not have to bow to some kingmaker who has been there for life. And maybe it would mean an end to the "party dues system" that is there now. For those that do not know that is when your party leader calls you in and says that you will vote as told and raise money for the party (not your own campaign) as told or you get to vote but do nothing else. I've said here before that I knew somebody who was in Congress for one term back in the 1970s. He said a new congressman has absolutely no power whatsoever and you have to be there for a few terms before they even notice you. You think you're going there to change things and you find out that you can change absolutely nothing unless you become part of the swamp and that takes a while. So he didn't run again and became a doctor instead. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Yes! Remember when AOC got elected and thought she would get on the Ways and Means Committee? Eventually she got taught the facts of life. Recently Pelosi torpedoed her hopes of chairing a committee. At best you are going to be low man on something either nobody wants to be on or something you have some legit experience in. For example, I could be a low man on something to do with property mineral rights. Maybe. I'd end up like that Eddie Murphy movie. Live in my office, do next to nothing. Vote if it was important. Tell the party leaders to go screw when they demanded fundraising. Take calls from the people I represented and help where I could. Knowing the whole thing is a waste of time. War is peace. It's almost a tradition that freshman congressman live in their office during the week and go home on weekends because they can't afford to live in Washington DC. They have no power, nobody knows who they are nobody cares if they sleep in their office. AOC has been a somebody since the beginning because of how they picked her and because she's an attractive big mouth ex bartender who's always sticking her foot into her big mouth. My prediction is she'll be there for decades and she will accomplish nothing, but they will all always go to her for her opinion because she's too stupid to know how stupid she is. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Unfortunately, I agree with you. I don;t think it was anticipated to be a career when the government was deigned. Early presidents went back to work after they got out of office. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |
