Actually, it is. They are in session. They have been ordered to be there. Warrants will soon be made for their arrest.

If they do not want to be assemblymen then they should resign then they are free to go to IL or wherever they want to.

Kicker is this is the second time TX Democrats have done this. They did it during the china virus as well, I forget what their reason was then.

What I read is a second degree felony in Texas.

But the reason they're risking their freedom is because they're racists.


If sent to prison, the inmates will demand to see the new inmate's papers.

To receive physical protection from the same race would depend on the offense.

So if you're white and sent to prison for a white race related offense, the whites won't protect you.

I’m glad it is a crime of some sort. They are taking public money to do a job. They can vote against any proposed bill they don’t like. They can speak against any bill they don’t like. They can campaign on the fact they voted against these bills.

I did not vote for a state assemblyman/Senator/representative to run away when there is a tough vote. Vote how you see fit, and let the Democratic process play out.

Looks like by law the governor can fine each missing member $500 a day. I hope there is a way to make sure the criminal representatives pay it themselves rather than have billionaires like Oprah pay the fines.


Final thought….. Can you imagine if they were asked this question on the campaign trail….. how they would have lied….

Listening to NPR earlier today the guy said their fleeing and not participating may or may not be a crime, it has never been considered by a court.

The thing is, apparently the rules say they can be fined etc. if they stay away but there is no LAW, i.e. no statute to that effect.

If there's no law how then would it be against the law?

I suppose they could be fined per their rules but not incarcerated / be arrested.

The governor is just throwing feces on the wall hoping it will stick: typical.

So...we'll just have to see.

Comparing it to the Constitution,

Few people realize, but the POTUS can either call Congress to session or send them home. Last I remember this might have been considered would be the Gulf War when they might have been home for summer recess. But POTUS can do that. Now, a member misses a flight and is late that would be one thing. But if Trump called Congress to session and Democrats refused to show up at the least there would be a probable constitutional crisis.

This is Democrats making yet another fight they are going to lose and going to look bad in. Same as Schumer demanding a payoff to allow votes on Trump nominees. They seem to think it is the 80s when the left had all of the media locked up.
