The things you mention are defining what type of Christian you are! Catholic, Russian Orthodox, Episcopalian, Baptist, Methodist, Anglican, Mormon, etc…. All have differing beliefs on various aspects. ALL are Christians.

The people committing violence against Mormons do not view Mormons as Christians. And, Christians far outnumber Mormons (many times over.).

That is why Christians have to be the ones to consider them Christians. I would agree with Christians that their book is so different, they are not Christians, there is too much of a textual difference. Don't take my word for it. Just Google "Do Christians consider Mormons Christians," and you will find thousands of Church sites and religious sites explaining how they are not real Christians.

I stand by my simple interpretation. If you believe Jesus Christ is the ‘son of God’ you are Christian. I don’t care if the pope doesn’t like other things you believe in or don’t believe in. And I don’t care if one sect of Christians hates a different sect of Christians. They are all Christians if they believe in Jesus being the son of God. And when you think about it, how many millions have died because of their different interpretations of Christianity?

I think this is kind of ironic. The type of people who want anyone to be able to identify themselves as they want (I’m a non binary, gender fluid, amorphous, assigned female, actual male) won’t accept Mormons who would identify as Christian!!!

Bingo! Thanks for putting the word ‘acceptable’ in there. The Pope would only consider Catholics ‘acceptable’ Christians. All the rest are ‘unacceptable’ Christians. And they used to have wars to kill off the ‘unacceptable’ ones. Now we had a lone wolf kill off a few he deemed ‘unacceptable’.

I think the overriding point is that the killer went after some people from a different sect, and it was because they were members of that sect. It is more SPECIFICALLY anti-Mormon violence, than ‘anti- Christian’ violence.

Mere belief that Jesus was the Son of God does not make one a Christian. There are other aspects of belief that are present in Christians and not present in non-Christians. I leave up to individual congregations and the individuals to determine that for themselves.

Didn't you say self-identifying doesn't matter? And, that it matters how the base group views you?

My logic is that I can interpret a definition. Definition of Christian—- One who believes Jesus is the son of God. MY interpretation…. Mormons believe Jesus is the son of god, ergo, they are Christians. It’s not my fault Catholics have a narrower (wrong) definition of who can be a Christian. Frankly, they can determine who is a CATHOLIC better than I can, but apparently can’t determine who is a CHRISTIAN better than I can!

And as far as ‘self identifying’’, there are lots of things that it is unreasonable to accept someone’s ’self identification’, and lots that are reasonable.

You want to identify as a Patriots fan? It’s stupid, but you can do it!

You want to identify as a female eland even though you are a male human? Nope!
