Not on this issue. This is a gift to the GOP. If they let them expire, the GOP approval ratings would tank. Now, the GOP gets to blame Dems for the shutdown and will take the credit for restoring the credits if they agree to it. The genius move (if you don't care about anything other than votes,) would be let the credits expire and talk endlessly about how the GOP said Americans don't deserve healthcare next year, but Democrats have somewhat of a soul and don't want people to die

I see. Health care insurance costs go up and ‘people will die’. But stopping SNAP to the poor and ‘people will live’?

My health care premium is NOT SUBSIDIZED by the Federal Government. Neither is yours, if you get it through your workplace. The true poor get free health care through Medicaid. That’s continuing. The elderly qualify for healthcare via Medicare. That’s continuing. The Democrats are worried about those that don’t qualify for ANY of these ways to get health care INSURANCE. Become a cop. A teacher. A GM factory worker. A banker. A road construction worker. Or heck, even marry someone who is.

Or, do what the Democrats want you to do, be dependent on the Federal Government for ‘subsidies’.

You imply ‘people will die’. How many lives has the literally TRILLIONS of dollars we’ve spent on Obamacare saved? Three? Four?

Heck, prove to me it’s greater than zero!

Don't the poor and the uninsured have a way to get some free health care regardless?

I'm talking about going to hospital emergency rooms for treatment.

I was told (but have not verified the claim) that ER's are required to treat all folks who request it: is this true?

If so...well who needs health insurance, at least for "major" issues / conditions?

According to the University of Chicago over 25k lives were saved from Obamacare from 2010-2020. And, about 25 million Americans use ACA for their insurance, and many of these will not be able to afford it.

Many things don't effect me directly, I have great insurance for almost nothing (9.50 a month,) and the price will stay the same next year (it may go up if my wife goes on it next year, but that is always the case.) I don't only care about issues that effect me. In fact most issues I care about don't even slightly effect me directly, but they are the right policy position to have.

SOOPOO probably has experience with what care gets treated. IMO, if you have cancer and you need emergency stabilization related to it, you can get that, but you may not receive regular cancer treatments like someone with insurance or ability to pay. But you could have millions in unpaid medical bills and still get emergency or stabilization care. Worst case scenario is like a death row prisoner who they won't let you die from a medical emergency but may execute him the next day on schedule.

Someone may qualify for certain medical assistance, but I'm talking about people who don't
Trump is not a genius; you're just dumb.

Those crazy democRATS:

TikTok Filled With Videos of People Threatening to Loot Grocery Stores

The majority of the people posting looks like they go days without meals. Maybe this Schumer Shutdown will reduce the widespread obesity in the US.

Like Rahm Emanuel once said: "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste." 🤣

Good post. How many of those 25,000,000 have the newest IPhone? Go to Disney for a vacation? Wear sneakers that cost over $100 a pair?

I can’t remember what you do for a living. But GOOD for you that you found a job that included health insurance in the package. You know you are being paid somewhat less than you would have been if you found a similar job that didn’t offer health insurance benefits?

I care about the poor. I took care of them my entire working career. I’d get a gang banger brought to our OR with 10 bullet holes, and I’d spend 5+ hours resuscitating him. Since he was (99+%) uninsured, how often did he (or his ‘estate’) respond to my bill? The number rhymes with MERO.

These guys got the same care as a cop shot ten times, by the way.

By the way, in no way do I believe any one who actually believes they can put a number on ‘lives saved’ due to a health care subsidy.

Soopoo: in the above gang banger vs. cop scenario, or uninsured vs. insured scenario: were you paid the same amount regardless as to wherher or not the bill got paid?

If so: what was the source of funds used to pay you for treating uninsured / broke ass gang-bangers?

First part of career at county hospital…. Quite complicated arrangement…. We billed each patient or their insurance company and distributed the money equally amongst the dozen doctors, who all worked (essentially) the same amount. So if I did all insured patients and a partner did the uninsured gang banger we made the same. We all got small salaries accounting for maybe 10% of my gross income. And the hospital paid for the CRNA’s we worked with. If you added it all up I made around the same as the guys with jobs at the nice private suburban hospitals.

Second half I was a pure hospital employee. Straight salary. Of course with the usual set of benefits. Probably was making marginally less than the guys at the suburban hospitals, but I was in the NY State pension system. So I now get a small pension similar to what a teacher would get. Mine’s a little lower because I started collecting at 59.

So the first half the answer is so multi factorial it’s difficult to answer. The second half is easy…. It was Erie County tax dollars. But even that is simplistic. My hospital got funds from NYS, from Medicare, from the Federal Government, from charitable donations, and of course from the many insured patients we took care of.

Then why did you ask the question, if you aren't going to trust the answer?

You care about the poor, you just don't want them to have affordable healthcare. In SooPoo's world only certain occupations and only those who make a certain amount or more should be able to get affordable healthcare.

Too old, too sick, too poor? Too bad!
