Mamdani's ascent underscores the dissension caused by the ever widening gap between "haves and have nots."

NYC is often the first place immigrants live, and by report it is increasingly hard for them to get traction economically these days.

No surprise they reached for a life preserver.

And of course there's a lot of young, upwardly mobile progressives in NYC who support him over Cuomo or Silva.

I'm a Democrat but I'm not at all happy about Mandami

I couldn't care less about his ethnicity or where he was born or the fact that he's a Muslim

I care about the fact that he is a Socialist

that is NOT what the Democratic Party is about

in electing Mandami Democrats in NYC have given Republicans a beautiful opportunity to mock and belittle Democrats

"AI Overview

The Democratic Party is not a socialist party. Its official platform and the majority of its members support a mixed-market economy, a political system known broadly as capitalism with a strong social safety net.

Key distinctions include:

Official Stance: Democratic leaders, such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have explicitly stated that they "reject socialism" and that it is "not the view of the Democratic Party".

Core Ideology: The party's ideology generally favors government regulation of the economy to protect consumers, workers, and the environment, along with social welfare programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and national health insurance proposals. These are generally considered center-left or liberal policies, not socialist ones.

Definition of Socialism: True socialism typically involves public or worker ownership of the means of production and the economy being largely controlled by the state. The Democratic Party does not advocate for this and supports the existence of private property and private enterprise.

Political Rhetoric: The term "socialism" has been used by political opponents, particularly Republicans for decades to criticize Democratic proposals for expanding the role of the federal government or social programs, such as national health insurance or New Deal programs. "

I’m concerned the same way, and hoping Mamdami either gets lucky for two years, or manages to pivot into some more realistic policies. He’s going to have to be politically deft (as opposed to deaf) should there be some serious issues unresolved.

I am thinking too much about free busing. Apparently, in certain communities, it is ALREADY free! NYC loses about $1.5 million PER DAY in bus ‘fare evasion’. Apparently the bus drivers are told to turn a blind eye to the ladies and gentlemen that just walk on and don’t pay.

$1.5 million PER DAY!

(Similar for the subway system, by the way).

What a shithole. Where the populace just is programmed to flaunt the law. To the tune of A BILLION dollars a year! (Cue my libbie friends chiming in…. Who do they think they are, The President?)

this libbie notes, scamming the government is not just a problem done only by poor people. Goes all the way to the top.

Certain bus lines in Boston are already free, in a 2 year pilot program. City finances are stable and the mayor just got reelected unopposed, after completely crushing her primary opponent, Josh Kraft. Kraft is the son of Patriots owner Bob Kraft, is closet MAGA...and finished second in the primary by almost 50 points.

To pay for the free busing in NYC, maybe we should cut down on police padding their OT...

Of course you use the pejorative term ‘padding’. Yes, if a policeman is somehow putting in for OT hours fraudulently, go after him. If he is working OT because there is a BLM riot to quell, pay him!

I’m not against free buses. I am against new policies that are costly with the thought ‘we’ll just tax the rich more’. Villages (Florida) houses going fast since Mamdani victory! Get yours now!

Oh, and a Democrat won in Boston! Alert the presses!

An Asian woman Democrat won in Boston! Alert the presses!

Cops padding their OT to violate the civil rights of BLM protesters peacefully assembling for which the NYPD had to pay over $13 million to settle lawsuits. $13 million that could've gone to free bus lines. We will add that to the list of rights you don't think people should have.

Maybe the cops would think twice about violating our rights of the settlement money had to come out of their own pockets, or they had to carry their own liability insurance so the money doesn't come out of the city's pockets?

People moving out of NYC by the droves to more acceptable locales? Does that mean that there will be a glut of housing in NYC, lowering housing costs and making the city more affordable? Sounds like a win!

I'm not in favor of taxing the rich even more. I voted against the Millionaire's Tax in 2022. The tax surcharge passed anyway. Now, in MA, millionaires pay a 9% flat tax rate instead of a 5% flat tax rate us plebens pay. It was predicted to be the worst idea ever. Tax receipts will drop and millionaires will flee in droves. Guess what? Tax receipts increased by $2 billion, earmarked for transportation and education. And state population has even increased.

Good for Massachusetts. But not the same for NY. Despite the flood of illegal immigrants during the Biden administration, NY lost over 300,000 in population during those years. Essentially they lost a medium sized city! Now that I think about it, they lost MORE than the ENTIRE population of Buffalo!!!

And that’s with global warming making Florida LESS attractive weather-wise than it used to be.
