Certain bus lines in Boston are already free, in a 2 year pilot program. City finances are stable and the mayor just got reelected unopposed, after completely crushing her primary opponent, Josh Kraft. Kraft is the son of Patriots owner Bob Kraft, is closet MAGA...and finished second in the primary by almost 50 points.

To pay for the free busing in NYC, maybe we should cut down on police padding their OT...

NYPD is very short, about 1.5k officers short. And, 1.5k officers may not sound like much in a city that size, but they are short of experienced officers, detectives, etc... positions that you can't just hire an 18 year old off the street for (disproportionate level of new recruits and higher management, short of skilled people in the middle that can do technical stuff on the ground.)

Until they have normal staffing, they are all probably going to be working a lot of OT.

I think free buses are good, but I also don't think not paying legally earned OT is good. These are not mutually exclusive.

Maybe the cops would think twice about violating our rights of the settlement money had to come out of their own pockets, ...

It can.

The NYC City Council ended qualified immunity for NYPD officers in 2021.

Police officers in NYC can be sued personally for liable or misconduct.

Cuomo supported removing qualified immunity for the NYPD, but had nothing to do with signing the law.

The sleeze bag enjoyed his own qualified immunity while his scandals cost NYS taxpayers $60 million in legal fees.

You won't find me defending Cuomo.

I didn't realize the political aspects of Mandami winning. Trump and other major Republicans were telling people not to vote for the Republican candidate and to vote for Cuomo. They were supporting a Democrat over local Republicans. I made a comment a few weeks ago saying Silwa should drop if Cuomo wants to beat Mandami, but didn't realize it was the mainstream belief.

Why are Republicans so fearful of Mandami, they endorse not only a Democrat, one that until very recently they were slurring as angel of death, sex predator, etc... One of the worst Dems (in their words.)

So GOP was so fearful of Mandami they were aggressively backing one of their most hated political opponents. Me

This makes me confident in Mandami. He is going to stand up to the billionaires and sellouts, and get the city back to the people.

Though I am pretty sure a large portion of the right does not like him simply because he is Muslim. And, while I can't stand religious people, this does not make him worse than the Christians already destroying our country. Do this is a non factor to me (especially because he has the right views on social issues that most Christians do not hold.)

Notwithstanding the misspelling in the title, his name is MAMDANI, not Mandami.

Please make a note of it.

Oh cut me a break, I am typing on my phone while running around, you know very well who I mean, the thread is about him. It was not intentional, probably how my phone autocorrected it.

What do you mean, cut you a break?

Both you and the OP misspelled his name.

You were both wrong and i am correcting both of you.

No need to deflect.

Move on.

Why do billionaires need to be "stood up to?" Really, how many of them can there be in NYC in any case?

Understood.

I wasn't trying to be snarky, just pointing it out: took me a bit to get his name correct.

Hello, new learning: oh, I expect we'll be seeing his name A LOT in the news.
