As far as I know the essential words required for baptism have never been changed. If the rite has changed, which it has, it has been done through the authority of the Church.

The purpose of it has never been
changed. The idea of it. The essential
words have been added to and taken
away. Saying we instead of I changes
nothing. The intent and event still
happened. That's the purpose of
any ritual.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Could it be that there are many other priests out there who used the wrong language, so every ceremony they presided over is null and void? The marriages aren't legitimate so all the little children aren't entitled to things?

The validity of the Sacrament of marriage doesn't effect the legitimacy of the children.

Also "we" versus "I" does make a big change, especially theologically.

But it doesn't change the intent
of the ceremony to the point
everybody has to run around
acting like the sky just fell.
Even I, an atheist, know religion
is about intent, not words.
It's what you have in your heart
and intention, your words have
little to do with it. The priest
who substituted 'we' for 'I'
understood that. Making a
mountain out of this proverbial
molehill did nobody any good.

Both intent and the right celebration are important. Bad intent usually shows up in your words and in ignoring the right way of celebrating.

Saying we instead of I is neither
bad intent nor wrong celebration.

Holocaust survivor gets to heaven
and confronts god. He tells god
a Holocaust joke and god says,
that's not funny and it's in bad
taste. The survivor answers, well,
I guess you had to be there.

Implying, of course, that god
was no where to be found when
his people needed him the most.
Figments of your imagination tend
to act like that..
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

In Heaven that person will see and understand clearly that God was present there.

You hope. You wish. You think. Or
so you've been told. There were
countless Jews who survived the
Holocaust who lost their faith
forever. Don't ever put a god to
the test, he will fail you every
single time. Figments of the
imagination don't do well in
the real world. They only thrive
if they aren't put to the test. Then
they always fail miserably.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
