The average temperature of the universe is a frosty 2.73 K.

Absolute zero is 0 K.

Oh, some people will cite 5.05 K or so. That's almost twice as warm, but both are near 0 K.

Enrico Fermi dies and goes to Heaven (damn!). When he comes before Jehovah, he asks "Lord, what explains the odd ratio between the mass of the electron and that of the proton? Every hypothesis purporting to explain this is clearly wrong!"

Jehovah hands him a book and says "Here is the explanation couched in the terminology of quantum mechanics."

Fermi quickly reads through it, throws it back at Jehovah and says in disgust: "Still wrong!"

I've always liked that joke.

Dang. The movement is stronger than I thought.

In July 2013, a member of the Czech Pirate Party from Brno in the Czech Republic was given permission to wear a pasta strainer on his head for the photograph on his official ID card.[107] The Brno City Hall spokesman explained, "The application complies with the laws...where headgear for religious or medical reasons is permitted if it doesn't hide the face."[108]

In August 2013, a student at Texas Tech University got approval to wear a pasta strainer on his head in his driver's license photo. The student, Eddie Castillo, said, "You might think this is some sort of a gag or prank by a college student, but thousands, including myself, see it as a political and religious milestone for all atheists everywhere."[109]

In January 2014, a member of the Pomfret, New York Town Council wore a colander while taking the oath of office.[110][111][112]

In November 2014, former porn star Asia Carrera obtained an identity photo with the traditional Pastafarian headgear from a Department of Motor Vehicles office in Hurricane, Utah. The director of Utah's Driver License Division says that about a dozen Pastafarians have had their state driver's license photos taken with a similar pasta strainer over the years.[113]

In November 2015, Massachusetts resident Lindsay Miller was allowed to wear a colander on her head in her driver's license photo after she cited her religious beliefs. Miller (who resides in Lowell) said on Friday, November 13 that she "absolutely loves the history and the story" of Pastafarians, whose website says has existed in secrecy for hundreds of years and entered the mainstream in 2005.[114] Ms. Miller was represented in her quest by The American Humanist Association’s Appignani Humanist Legal Center.[115]

In January 2016, Russian Pastafarian Andrew Filin got a driver's license with his photo in a colander

The Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) is the deity of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or Pastafarianism (a portmanteau of pasta and Rastafarian), a social movement that promotes a light-hearted view of religion and opposes the teaching of intelligent design and creationism in public schools.

You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

Next question: Does Christian doctrine, of any variety, explicitly admit the possibility of non-human sentient life elsewhere in the universe? Be it past, current or future?

I'm gonna say "angels" before FrGamble gets to it! Or are they in the Universe? There's apparently more angels than all the humans ever born (if someone else's assertion on the Internet was correct)

"The problem with quotations found on the Internet is that many of them are not true." Abraham Lincoln ;)

I read somewhere some Christians seem to believe some part of the Bible indicates Jehovah created the whole universe solely for humanity's benefit, therefore there cannot be other intelligent beings anywhere, ever.

I like the angels answer, which are definitely sentient beings. However, I have heard different opinions in regards to alien life.

Sure, why not?

The not is fairly simple. Do you think that energy can create itself? If so do you have evidence for that?

Quote:
Bad news: I can easily imagine there's no you.

Good news: I am not God and am not a necessary being.

Quote:
Are you aware whatever isn't space is some form of energy? Without energy you'd only have space. But without energy to drive the expansion of space, it would be infinitesimally small and completely empty.

No. It's not necessary. unless you want to, you know, exist.

Are you aware that existence is not necessary and neither is space? Get ready to have mind blown, but even space is a thing.

Quote:
Energy is non-contingent, since it is eternal.

Prove it's not.

And around and around we go. Do you want me to scientifically prove it? That is way above my pay grade and I think not possible for anyone. Philosophically however Energy cannot be eternal because it does not have its reason for existence in itself, which is the definition of non-contingent.

it does not have its reason for existence .

The original oxymoron. There is no
reason for existence anymore than
there's a reason for my dog being
here. Just more ego oriented nonsense.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Nope, if you think about it for a second; for there to be anything at all that cannot explain its own existence then there must be at the very beginning something that does not depend on anything else for its existence, that is being itself and does not depend on anything else for its existence, this we commonly refer to as God. Here we are not talking about reason as in explanation but more in the sense of causation.
