I get the impression more and more that Vlad the Impaler delusionally sees himself as a "historical figure" equal to Peter the Great, or Catherine the Great.

He cares nothing for individuals; his concern is only "Russia," in the abstract, and his sole aim is to grow its power and influence.

Clearly he hated how the USSR imploded under Reagan and he wishes to rebuild and recapture much of the power Russia once wielded, no matter what the cost in world opinion.

Whatever the case, we want him and anyone else thinking about the same thing to view it as not worth the cost. That could do a lot to discourage any other wanna-be empire builder and possibly pay some actual dividends for awhile not having to do this again.

Especially the Chinese. Not sure we will convince them but we are so intertwined in businesses with them it would be hard to get to the same level of sanctions as we are with Russia.

This should be a lesson in trying to obtain as much critical product from people we have at least some trust in. I don’t trust China at all.

Well, Putin could easily label his plans, "Russia First". Nationalism is the nameplate for many dictators.

He's not ruling under the cover of converting everyone to socialism, or communism. He's truly shifted into a rightwing dictator. I can't even remember the last time he blurted any familiar terms from Marxist ideology. The government control of the old communist state is just a useful device at this point.

Xi Jinping is much more old style communist spouting leader. No so much difference in overall results. Xi may actually be more pragmatic of the two or not as lost in his own reflection in mirror as Putin may have become.

I wonder what it feels like to be Kamala Harris and realize everyday that you are in way way WAY over your head in your job title. I just watched her give a 2 minute answer to a question about Ukraine and not one word of it made any sense. It was total rambling on about nothing. Why not just say nothing instead of giving a moronic answer. Because that's all morons can do is give moronic answers.

I think Putin might have fallen into the trap that Hollywood warns its stars. "Don't start believing your own press".
