This is the DOD statement on Biolabs in Ukraine.

There are several hundred in countries around the world (that receive American money). And, many more that do not. Many of these house dangerous pathogen for obvious reasons. It is not to make biological weapons.

Anytime such an area around a lab comes into conflict or natural disaster it is cause for concern.

Biological weapons besides being illegal, are not effective. They are simply not good weapons in the modern world. The idea that America has some kind of vested interest in making them is silly. I think that the last time there was a legitimate biological threat was the anthrax attack, and even that caused single digit deaths (and nobody who they really wanted). There is a reason that even terrorist groups largely don't bother with them anymore.

I don't understand why this obsession with biolabs is still out there.

Russia is one of the few countries that may actually have a bioweapons program, and nobody seems concerned about it (they certainly are not afraid of using radiation, biological, and chemical localized actions to target individuals with poisoning etc...). Its just another example of Russia doing something while saying another country is the problem (and useful idiots buying in). But, even this does not overly worry me (on a global scale), because Russia has more effective weapons (chemical and conventional), so if they want to cause worldwide damage, there are better options for them, but its just an example of their hypocrisy.

I honestly don't know the full story (and have not really looked into it), but generally I am against cutting programs that are successful.

I have no issue bashing Biden when he makes dumb moves (I had a whole thread on it). But, I simply don't know enough about the reason for the cuts to have an informed opinion on it (my vague understanding is they are simply ordering less than originally planned, but this is very cursory). And, there could be reasons for this (maybe they decided last year they need more of some other aircraft or such)?

The F-35 is basically a mediocre plane, per report.

Makes more sense to continue to buy evolutions of other, successful fighters such as the F-15 and F-16 while working on a new 6th gen fighter.

Doesn't it seem that this board has spent a lot more time talking about some obscure war in Europe between two country's that we aren't connected with [Russia and Ukraine] than the amount of time we spent talking about the war in Afghanistan vs USA, plus allies that we fought and financed for over 20 years?
