No, it won't win an Oscar, but it cleaned up on the African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) 2014 Best Picture Best Director Ava DuVernay Best Actor David Oyelowo Best Music John Legend Common For the song "Glory" You can't call a picture a "bomb" that at least breaks even and makes money on DVD sales while also winning awards. It is not nearly as successful as "Lee Daniels' The Butler", but you can't call it a "bomb". |

What would have been really strange is if it hadn't won. That would mean we were in Bizzaro World, where everything is opposite. Butler was heavily criticized for it's inaccuracy as well. All the presidents treated the WH staff well, except the Clintons. Even LBJ, who was a real bigot, was respectful. The Clintons, true hillbillies, treated everybody like crap, especially Hillary. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

rxwine Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 189 Posts: 18775 | Subject matter will make a difference in the draw, even if movie is good. At least for me. Some movies are quite good, but I can't muster up the interest in the subject, I will probably sit it out until I catch it later, unless dragged down to the theater by someone else. Also, I have to be in the mood for some types of movies. Some days you just don't want to watch serious drama - maybe just light action or comedy. It's not really a reflection on the movie's greatness though. Or lack of. You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really? |

Isn't it true that every single hollywwod movie regarding real events takes huge liberties to make a movie more dramatic. Are there any movies out there about real events or lives that are pretty accurate that are not documentaries? Sometimes we live no particular way but our own - Grateful Dead "Eyes of the World" |

Movies that deal with people who are still alive, like Coretta King, don't get away with it very well, though. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

It's well documented from people who worked there. One rule Hillary had was when she was in a WH hallway, nobody was to speak to her or even make eye contact. There are dozens of books written by people who were on the inside, or know those who were. This is pretty entertaining: http://www.dcclothesline.com/2013/08/25/the-filthy-mouth-of-hillary-clinton/ If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I still have never seen Schindler's List. I know , I know! I watch a few minutes of the little girl in the red dress, and I can't go on. I'm a wimp. |

It's a borefest, you aren't missing anything. I suppose it would be a shock to those not familiar with the Holocaust, though. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
