Actually, I suspect that is what will happen...

I'll run out and buy lottery tickets, then :)

I'd like to be able to say politics is the last refuge of snake oil. As it is, politics would seem to be its strongest stronghold.

It's a mess... the far right are using the whole thing as a sign for increased racial abuse on the streets and in the public life of Britain.

Xenophobia doesn't need a reason, just an opportunity.

If you think it's a mess now, wait until the negotiations with the EU start. On the one hand no one expected this and this few even prepared for it. On the other, the EU might decide to make an example of the UK and leave them very little.

Now, if the plebiscite wasn't binding, can Parliament or the House of Lords, or however things work over there, decide not to leave? In the US a president can sign a treaty, but it cannot go into effect for America until it is ratified by the Senate. IN this case imagine Prez Trump holding a referendum to pull out of NAFTA, followed by negotiations with Canada and Mexico, followed by a new treaty to end America's part in NAFTA, followed by the Senate saying "No dice!" (I said "imagine"). Is there a function to advise and consent in the UK at all?

Really, you guys need a written constitution.

Actually, I suspect that is what will happen... and they'll be a whole heap of poop afterwards. Both Gove, Johnson (an American by birth, and part Turkish by ancestry) and Duncan-Smith have all been on record -already- to claim that leaving the EU won't mean leaving the single market, won't free up money for the NHS and won't reduce immigration. Three of the central pillars of the leave campaign. As I've said, normally they don't show how much they've lied in the first week after a win.

It's a mess... the far right are using the whole thing as a sign for increased racial abuse on the streets and in the public life of Britain. Which is sad, as many voted to leave not for a fear of immigrants, but an over-riding sense of that the politicians in London weren't helping them (the free ride, in some cases, and small-c conservative values in others).

What is going on should scare the average person to death. The public votes for their government to do something. And it passes by an actually decent sized margin. Yet the government sends them an "up yours card" and does what they want. If you think you are free, look at the slave in the mirror.

The vote appeared to be legitimate, so I think it would be wrong to not follow through even though I thought it was a bad idea to begin with.

There's some measures so extreme I would reject even a majority vote, but this isn't one of the them.

This is no small action of no consequence that's for sure, but IMO it still doesn't reach the level of overturning the vote.

BUT, you know, not my country... nothing i'm going to do anything about it anyway.

The "bad idea" thing really is in the eye of the beholder. IMHO when the establishment says it will be doom on this level you should wonder why that is. Are things really balanced just so that it will all easily collapse? It is the old FUD principle of scaring people to do what you want. People keep falling for it.

As ti the not my country, nothing I'm going to do, well, right. And you are not doing anything about it in you own country, either. The thing is to take the lesson. Governments as free as there can be to the most repressive will ignore what the people want when it suits their needs, plans, or wants. If the USA wanted to invade Mexico tomorrow, they would simply do it. If Canada wanted to submit to USA annexation tomorrow they would do it. It matters not what the people want, except in the most extreme cases. When it gets that extreme everything else has fallen apart anyways in almost all cases.

This is why it is so important to have a resilient life for yourself. Know when disaster is coming and figure how to make it thru. I see several coming, but am not waiting for some election to solve my problems. Too few people do that.

I'm well armed and have a pantry with 6 months
of canned goods stockpiled. I wait for killer sales
and then by a hundred cans of something. I'm
big on Progresso Soup. One 19oz can is a meal
and you can get them for 90 cents on sale, they're
usually $2.29. I have 150 cans at least. Canned meat
and tuna are big on my list too. I'd like to get a
years worth stored.

A very good start, I am trying to get more into that but one issue is my storage is not the best. Biggest thing is you have to like what you buy. Some people get hyped and buy beans, but they hate beans!

Seriously do be ready for the 2020s. They are going to be violent and horrible. If the USD crashes during them then all bets are really off! Get debt free. Get hard skills. Carpentry and electrical may well be better skills than any white collar ones.

It has not yet come to pass. The pressure is now from the EU saying 'well, you voted on it, you passed the democratic test, where's the exit letter? why do you keep sending us this man Farage who didn't want to be here?'.

The Tories are on the horns of a dilemma... don't enact it, and they lose the vote of no-confidence and UKIP gets more seats. Enact it, and the leader is sitting on a pot of trouble that they don't want there name on, even though it's the -right- thing to do given the vote... longer term it might work out, but everyone thinks in the short term the exit will be terrible for the country and the economy. Even the Brexiters! None of them have the courage of their convictions, and the power vacuum is the sort of pot that the radical right (or left) would love to sweep into.

Nareed your President and my Prime Minister seem to be BFF now. They were out jogging together this morning.

Yes, well, your PM doesn't have to put up with him for six years :)
