Have you read Sidhartha? That's a good book.

In 1972 I did. Steppenwolf, by Hermann Hesse,
is better. Steppenwolf was wildly popular and has
been a perpetual success across the decades

Ricky Gervais made an interesting point.
If you totally destroyed all the religious
books, and all the science books, in
1000 years the religious books would
all be totally different, and all the
science books would be totally the
same as they are now.

Science is based on truth, repeatable
truth. Religion is pure speculation.

Both science and religion deal with the search for truth. One important thing to note about his statement is that religious books would come back, as well as science. Nothing can extinguish our natural search for God. Science cannot answer the big questions we all ask.

Secondly, this quote reinforces the need for an incarnate historical reality of God.

But no Jesus story, it would be lost.
Because its just a story, its not important.
Science is important to our survival.
One god story is just as important as any
other..

The Jesus story is not important? When you say things like the sky is not blue it makes it hard to take you seriously. Anyway science unchecked by morality and ethics would have probably extingushed the human race long ago.

That statement is true Padre. What is not true is your assumption that we can't have morality and ethics without Christianity.

But to have morality and ethics you need a higher good than ourselves.

I think the majority of humans have that higher good in their genes. That is why humans are still around and we haven't self destructed. Of course that doesn't mean there hasn't been millions of humans over the millennia that have had only self interest as their guide.

Most living creatures will put the greater good for their society ahead of personal gain, bees and ants do it quite well. They even have armies that defend them from attack from their own species.

Morality is not a chemical or genetic thing.

Yes and these are those people who have cause the most bloodshed and worse atrocities in history.
