They researched, found the stories credible and they went to print.
When the fake woman came forward to the Post, they again did research but this time determined that she was lying and published that story.

What good is research when the MeToo crowd is insisting on an intellectual goosestep of instantaneous guilt and instantaneous career and social death?
Remember the War Against Iraq... no research just print the darn press release it says Weapons of Mass Destruction. That such boasts by that despot were empty threats used mainly to intimidate his neighbors was researched by ONE team of journalists who were promptly shunned. Bush got the war he wanted, major corporations that his family had invested in got even richer, shadowy Private Army firms got billions and the press never trumpeted that the Bush family and the House of Saud own most of those firms despite their very prim and proper titular owners being English, French or Swiss.

The politically correct journalists were lauded, the factually correct journalist was shunned.

So I tend to think this goose stepping to mere accusations of historical pawings is wrong. One female correspondent was being harassed at a Syrian airport so she faked a swoon and stomped on the man's foot. That journalist can not understand the claims of women who went to a man's hotel room or who were cowed into submission at the first pawing instead of knowing how to use their kneecaps, hold their liquor and stay out of men's hotel rooms.

At least 5 Democratic senators have come out in the last hour and called for Al Franken to resign. His days in the Senate are numbered.

Al Franken, they just keep coming:
