In my last four weeks I have accomplished doing the dishes three times and taking the garbage can out front four times. That is the most I have ever done around the house. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent. |

Calories in calories out. It takes 2000 calories a day just to run your body. Eat 1500 and stay in front of the TV and you will lose weight. The body is just a machine, calories in calories out. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

RonC Member since: Nov 7, 2012 Threads: 8 Posts: 2510 | Grabbed some beers yesterday and headed to a 1,000 acre ranch. The manager left a side by side ATV for us to use. Wiped it down since he had used it earlier. Took some of the beers and headed around the property to show my wife (she had not been before). Carried a rifle and a pistol in case any wild pigs showed up--they have been known to attack people. It was not a great day, weather-wise. The radar showed us being near the edge of some storms, but in the "green" part of it; light rain only. Saw a few deer and some of the cattle as we drove around. The sky exploded, and the radar now showed purple. Lightning struck all around us. It was strangely exhilarating. We bugged out from the drive and headed back to the camp area to get in our turck. We spent the next hour or so in heavy downpours, lots of lightning, and some small hail. The rain was so intense that it was not safe to drive out of the ranch. When it let up, we loaded up, grabbed a bottle of water for the road, and headed down the road home. It was a good afternoon away from the monotony of staying in the house; maybe not exactly safe but still a good day. The sun was out by the time we got home. |

Congras on the ciggys, Face! That is quite an accomplishment, and I wish you continued success. You're probably past most of the physical cravings, no? And now just in the behavioral stage, trying to fill your time/hands with something else during all the times you would normally have a smoke. On the exercise/diet front, I have to agree that it's mostly diet. Percentages probably vary person to person, but probably 75-90% diet. I recently lost ~40 pounds from 2019 May to 2020 January. A coworker asked me for some tips and I emphasized the diet first part. In 2018 August I returned to the gym after several years of very little exercise. I did basic weight training (Starting Strength), 3 days a week for about an hour each session. I didn't change my diet (which was poor) much, and I lost zero weight (although I did get stronger and definitely traded some fat for muscle, I was still very overweight). In May I finally resolved to get serious and started eating a LOT less, mostly carby snacks at work, while keeping the exercise constant, and then the pounds starting coming off. I also drastically reduced my alcohol intake, which is a huge source of calories. Back on topic.... I'm not doing too well, still fully employed WFH but being stuck inside with a 3 year old and 10 month old is taking its toll on my wife and myself. She is a SAHM so childcare situation hasn't changed, but the kids are missing a lot of outlets for social interaction and energy, so it's tough. The urge to drink every day is strong; I'm not a teetotaler by any means, but it's easy for me to let it get out of control. I am not doing well at work. It's hard for me to be productive at home, and generally I go through cycles of up and down with respect to my motivation and productivity. The constant low level stress and anxiety has me in a major downward spiral in terms of getting stuff done. It doesn't feel good. "You think I'm joking." -EvenBob |

When I was young I had no problem being motivated and writing lots of code at home. As I got older I lost a lot of motivation and really can't do any work at home. Just way too many distractions at home. Things were much easier before the internet, a lot less distractions. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent. |

Absolutely, I grew up in the time of the internet, so at my first jobs I already had that built-in distraction. It sucks that the equipment I need to do my job (a computer with internet) also serves as an endless procrastination machine. "You think I'm joking." -EvenBob |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25011 | I enjoy drinking and would never give it up. So I learned to drink the same exact amount at the same exact time every day. Just enough, always the same booze, never any more and never any less. Works great for me. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
