I thought Emily Blunt's performance was pretty weak, but the story was interesting,

I thought her character was very realistic.
She got her ass kicked every time she
turned around, either physically or verbally.
She was in a mans world and had no power
whatsoever. Everything about the story
screamed authenticity. She was trained in
martial arts yet lost to a mans brute strength
both times. She had a stick up her ass attitude
about what's legal and what's right, but
she was pissing in the wind, her opinion meant
nothing.

And the end, where Del Toro gets his revenge, was
not what was expected. Yet you just knew that's
what would happen in real life if somebody had
murdered your family in that culture. But I thought
they would weasel out of it, it was too gruesome.

I loved the whole thing, I've never seen anything
quite like it. I especially liked the smart assed
John Wayne CIA agents, they do what they want
and get away with it, and they know it.

They are making a sequel to Sicario called Soldado, due for release next year.

Emily Blunt's character won't be in it, but Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro will be.

I bought Sicario on Blu-Ray on Black Friday for $3.99 at Best Buy without having seen it, and I ended up really enjoying it.

A complex story with a memorable shootout sequence..

At the border crossing? Just get out of
your cars, shoot the bad guys in theirs,
and take off. The whole scene was very
cool. I liked the tattooed Latino being
told to drop his weapon. The look on
his face was he knew he was a dead man
either way, what the hell, shoot it out.

I wonder how women reacted to the main
character. She was so out of her league.
First they won't tell her the assignment
because she's meaningless to them, then
they don't tell her why she's there. She
takes a cop back to her place to screw
him and he tries to kill her and she has to
be saved by yet another man. And at the
end, when she refuses to sign the paper,
Del Toro puts the gun to her throat and
says she dies right now if she doesn't. So
she signs, who wouldn't.

I get so tired of women being portrayed
in that line of work as some kind of
super hero. Every man I've talked to
who has to work with women in mens jobs
like law enforcement say they are lame
beyond belief.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

"Mother" opens soon. Maybe it will catch the wave of moviegoers interested in horror films... or get pummeled as too similar to spend money on.

Mother! is being compared to Woody Allen's 1980 film, Stardust Memories (which sold 4 million tickets ).
It doesn't look like Mother! is going to sell anywhere near 4 million tickets, though it may be more popular streaming or with DVD sales.

People are captivated by fame and glamour. They don't particularly like movies that tear down the life. Black Swan sold 13.5 million tickets, so it goes to show you that people can stand dark stories about fame if there is some hot lesbian action involving actresses they fantasize about.

I'm actually planning on seeing mother! tomorrow night.

Audiences have absolutely detested it. I'm curious if it's as bad as it's been made out to be...

Aronofsky made a movie called THE FOUNTAIN (2006) with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. The movie mother! was marketed as a horror film clearly because the studios wanted to get some people to go see it.

Both movies were very exciting to some critics, but they are far out of the mainstream.

I could see at least three other alternate ways the reveal could have been done, but the way the director chose seems the least confusing.
How would you have done it, keeping in mind that this movie is in between other films and needs to "fit"?

I probably started a half dozen recorded movies from the DVR the other night many with high ratings and couldn't get through them. Started watching "Serenity" from 1995 and it finally held my attention to watch it all the way though. Never saw the Firefly series so wasn't familiar with any backstory.

I think that was 2005.
