Because of what Ace said and also because he has the money bag and is getting ready to bolt.

I did not notice that about the halo and bolting, just the money bag. Extra credit to FrG.

Trivia time! Which on is Judas and why?

Not only are the disciples 30 years
older than they really were, why is
Jesus always depicted with a beard
and long hair. The truth is, he was
almost certainly clean shaven and
short haired. The very first drawings
of him in Rome have him looking
like that. Even Paul said it was
shameful for a man to have long hair.

"14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?"

So here we go again with the Church
changing reality. The disciples were
really teen boys, no beards, no bald
heads. And Jesus himself was not the
tall handsome guy with long hair and
a beard.

And they get the height wrong. Jews
lived on fish and bread, which as
we know from the Japanese, does
not produce tall people. Jesus was
probably 5'-5 2" tall. His teen disciples
would have been even shorter. Well,
the Church can't have their hero
and his merry band depicted as
Munchkins, so they lie about that
as well.

Nothing in the paintings of the last
supper is real, it's all a fantasy. Just
like the rest of the religion. Lies,
distortions, and made up fantasy.

Bob, maybe instead of thinking of these paintings as lies and evil you could think that the artists were depicting Jesus as He would be in our age and time. Caravaggio was famous for this, sometimes putting the the disciples into the very clothing of his era not those worn in the first century AD. Jesus is truly God and as one of your recent posts talking about God being everywhere and in everyone, surely there is nothing wrong with an artist depicting God in the present time and not just relegating Him to historical fact. Maybe not everything is as nefarious and insidious as you make it out to be.

long and short hair are not precise descriptions.

Artists often depict various interpretations of the human form.

Exactly. The Vatican and it's lies. I posted
about the Hays code in another thread,
and how Catholics wrote it, then tried
to pretend they didn't. And they controlled
movies for 35 years.

I said before I was shocked in 1970 in
the movie MASH when they openly
mocked a Protestant minister by
sarcastically calling him 'padre' and
'father'. I'd never seen that before,
it wasn't allowed by the Catholic Hays
Code.

I recently bought the movie 'Doubt'
because it so accurately portrays
the Church of the 60's. Pedo priests
are never punished, just moved from
parish to parish. I want this movie
in my collection.

"Doubt" is a very good show. I think it does a good job of trying to get us to think of the sometimes complex nature of these cases. I'm glad you have the movie.

By the way I am almost positive the chaplain on the MASH tv show is a Catholic priest, a Jesuit to be precise.

In the movie he was a Presbyterian minister.
