You seem surprised.

You shouldn't be. This is what they do. It's not all they do, or they'd have lost the war by now, but it's what they've always done. In the days when you could rule people with mystical fears, they even did rather well. Now, not so much.

I tend to say I don't need to read the Bible because I'm already an atheist. It's not a joke. It's the gospel truth ;) I began to have doubts about the morality of the Judeo-Christian-Muslim god the moment I studied Bible stories in school. And these were presented favorably. Preaching based on such material will turn off ever more people, that's why they dress it up or change it now and then. But they just can't help themselves much, like less flamboyant Donald Trumps, they have to stick to their prejudices because they are "THE TRUTH."

Where in the world did you get this from? Whether it is the Exodus or modern life you don't like the fact that other people's sinful actions cause misery and sadness to innocent people. I don't like it either but I don't go blaming God for it. God is the cause of our free will, we are the cause of evil. You would do better to focus on making this world a better place by visiting a pediatric cancer unit and making these beautiful kids smile or help out a homeless man or woman or volunteer at the local fire department. Whatever you want; just don't go around blaming a being you don't even think exists for all our problems.

You need to learn humility in the face of mother nature. It would be much more wise to say that she can be persuaded, but never commanded.
